Meggle twice close to a podium finish

In two awesome Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup races in Assen, Matthias Meggle was twice within podium reach. Once he finished fourth and once he was in third position when he crashed a few meters to the finish line.

Not only the Moto2 Dynavolt Intact GP team fought for Championship points last weekend on the TT Circuit Assen, also the junior talent of the racing squad from Memmingen had been competing on the tradition-steeped track.

One week after his participation at the Moto3 Junior World Championship in Barcelona, Matthias Meggle was once again sitting in the saddle of a KTM, this time with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies. Two races were held in Assen. On Saturday the Intact GP youngster showed a massive comeback from grid position 11 to 4th place. Only 0.246 seconds separated him from his first Rookies Cup podium. In the second race on Sunday, on a wet track, 'Matze' was once again one of the podium chasers and was third on the way to the final chicane when he lost the front and crashed. At the end he was still 16th.

The 16-year-old's highly motivated racing schedule will continue this weekend when the third Red Bull Rookies Cup event of the year will take place on the Sachsenring during the German Grand Prix from 30 June to 2 July.
