Arbolino shines with P4 on Friday in Austin

The Italian started the Grand Prix of the Americas weekend with a great feeling. Marcel Schrötter, fourth fastest in the morning, finished day one in Texas in tenth place.

The Friday at the Circuit of the Americas started with rain for Moto3 and MotoGP, but by the time of Moto2's first practice session, the sun had finally made an appearance. The Texan track was still showing patches of wet here and there, so the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP riders first tackled the conditions with rain tyres, but soon switched to slicks as the asphalt dried quickly. In the afternoon, the sun then blazed down with full force, creating completely different conditions during the second session of the day.

Tony Arbolino, who was riding the Moto2 bike for the first time in Austin and was visibly comfortable, finished eighth in the wet morning and impressed in the afternoon heat with the fourth-fastest time, a 2'10.673. The 21-year-old can now hardly wait to fight for a good grid position for the Americas GP on Sunday.

Team-mate Marcel Schrötter was able to use the treacherous mixed conditions in the morning on one of his favorite tracks to his advantage. He started the weekend highly motivated with fourth place. In the afternoon, however, he did not immediately regain his confidence at the start of the session but improved in the second half and finished day one in tenth place.
