Schrötter & Alcoba strike with brilliant P4 and P6 at US Grand Prix

Mit einem Paukenschlag meldete sich das LIQUI MOLY Intact GP Team am Rennsonntag auf dem Circuit of the Americas zurück, nachdem Marcel Schrötter auf einem fulminanten vierten Platz über die Linie kam, dicht gefolgt von Teamkollege und bestem Rookie im Rennen, Jeremy Alcoba.

The LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team came back with a bang on race Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas after Marcel Schrötter crossed the line in a brilliant fourth place, closely followed by teammate and best rookie in the race, Jeremy Alcoba.

It was chaotic scenes that opened the fourth round of the season in Austin, Texas, but there was no beating the drama over the course of the race either. Ten crashes characterized the 18-lap race, which Marcel Schrötter and Jeremy Alcoba finished with brains and the necessary self-confidence in the best manner.

With a rocket start, Marcel Schrötter shot from P13 in row five up the inside of the straight up to turn 1, where it became extremely dicey for the German. But the 29-year-old remained seated but fell back to his starting position. He didn't stay there long though, as Schrötter quickly found his pace and was already in ninth place by the end of the first lap, from where he had to close quite a gap to Jorge Navarro in front of him. Lap after lap, the experienced Moto2 rider stalked the field, ultimately also benefiting from a number of crashes in front of him, and suddenly found himself in the fourth position, with local hero Cameron Beaubier closely behind. The US-American passed him with five laps to go but then crashed on the last lap, which provided a fantastic fourth place, 13 points and P10 in the world championship ranking for Marcel Schrötter, who had been plagued by persistent problems lately. 

The new recruit to the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team, Jeremy Alcoba, had just as much reason to be happy. The Moto2 rookie also stayed clear of the carnage on the first lap and immediately made up ground. By the time he had circled the 5.5 km COTA for the first time, he was already in the points in P14. On lap eight, the 20-year-old moved up to the eleventh position, but that was not yet enough. The Spaniard was within striking distance of Augusto Fernandez and Joe Robert, whom he studied intensively for a short time and finally attacked successfully. Alcoba's points account also rang in on this windy race Sunday: 10 points and 16th place in the World Championship ranking make the ambitious Alcoba, who has so far exceeded the team's expectations, hungry for more.

More racing action will follow in two weeks' time at the European season opener in Portugal at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão from April 22nd - 24th, to which the two LIQUI MOLY Intact GP riders will be arriving with a big boost.
