Dominique Aegerter shines with P2 in the first MotoE race
Once again the Dynavolt Intact GP team has every reason to celebrate. Their recruit for the electric class, Dominique Aegerter, caused frantic cheer in the Parc Fermé with a brilliant first race of the season, in which he finished second.
Earlier, the Swiss had started the race from fifth position and after the race got off to an untypical quiet start for MotoE, the reigning Supersport World Champion set off fireworks with just under four laps remaining. His deficit to Eric Granado at this point was 0.671s, which he managed to reduce to 0.199s within a few corners. With incredible skill and control on the brakes, the 31-year-old rode incomparably tight lines around the 4.4km Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, where the podium battle was just beginning to unfold.
Just as he had set his sights on Miquel Pons for an attack on lap six, Mattia Casadei, who ended up crashing, and Hector Garzo collided in front of him, giving Aegerter third place behind Granado at the front and Pons in second. On the final lap, the 2021 MotoE Vice-Champion made a daring attack around the outside of Pons, but he immediately hit back. In the end, however, Dominique Aegerter managed to hold his ground and crossed the finish line +0.696s behind Brazilian Eric Grando in second place and with his first 20 Championship points in his pocket.
A truly successful start to the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup of 2022, and one that whets the appetite for more. More action-packed racing will already follow on Suday, when the second race is held at 15:30 (CEST).
