Schrötter: "Today we were able to solve some open setup questions!“

The opening day for Moto2 in Jerez de la Frontera ended on a positive note for LIQUI MOLY Intact GP riders Marcel Schrötter and Jeremy Alcoba after a lot of work and despite positions 16 and 24 in the combined times.

After recent successes in Portugal, the riders from the German LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team didn't get the start they had hoped for in Andalusia, but the numbers on paper didn't reflect the potential they will try to tease out of their Kalex bikes on Saturday after the focus was mainly on setup work on Friday.

The German's pace was strong from the start. He even led the top speed figures in FP1, but a lot of setup work and pushing the hard tyre to the limit characterized the first session, which Marcel Schrötter eventually finished with P14 within the direct Q2 places. In FP2, he and his crew opted for the same hard tyre choice to compare further changes on the bike. The aim was to clarify where the decision would go for the presumably hot race on Sunday. In the end, the positive summary was that some open setup questions could be clarified, so that in FP3, with his saved soft tyres, he will focus on calling up top times and making the jump back into the top 14.

Local hero Jeremy Alcoba was disappointed with his Friday result after feeling very comfortable in the morning and even setting his personal best time in Moto2 at Jerez. His 1'42.855 put him in P15, just 0.146s behind teammate Marcel Schrötter. In FP2, unfortunately, he was unable to beat the times on the soft tyre and match the pace of Friday morning. However, the 1'42.919 from FP2 was only 0.064s slower than in the cooler FP1, so Alcoba is pinning all his hopes on the third free practice session, where he will try to turn the tables on his home Grand Prix.

The sixth qualifying Saturday of the year kicks off for Moto2 at 10:55am (CEST) with FP3, where the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP duo will do everything they can to prepare for qualifying in the best possible way.
