Alcoba & Schrötter celebrate top 10 results at the season finale

In bright sunshine and in front of a full house, it was lights out, fight mode on for one last time this season. A mantra that both Jeremy Alcoba and Marcel Schrötterinternalized and implemented for their farewell round from the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team, as coming from P18 and P22 respectively, both delivered a brilliant finish with P8 and P10 in the grand finale at Valencia.

Marcel Schrötter produced an impressive recovery today, Sunday, as the German veteran fought his way to the front within a few laps, latching onto his teammate's rear and making up position after position. Even as the gaps to the front widened, the 29-year-old managed his tenth position with everything at his disposal. It was an emotional weekend for Schrötter, who will leave the team after six years and take on new challenges in the Supersport World Championship.
With 123.5 points in the 2022 season, he ranks eleventh in the World Championship and can look back with pride on many career highlights. Among them his 3rd place at the Sachsenring in 2019, where he was celebrated by his fans as the winner of hearts. In six years together, he and the Memmingen racing team have scored 14 front-row starts, 3 pole positions, and 5 podiums! The team now has to let go of a family member, but with best wishes and good luck for his future career!

The rookie of the German racing team delivered a bit of a parade on this 20th race weekend, as with each session completed, Jeremy Alcoba increased his pace, which eventually helped him to make up an incredible ten positions on his grid position in the 25-lap race. This was despite the fact that the Valencian track offers very few overtaking opportunities and a collision between the Spaniard and Mattia Pasini on lap 19, which resulted in a long-lap penalty for the impetuous Alcoba. However, the 20-year-old was not pushed back by this, as his lead over the chasers was large enough and so he ended his first Moto2 season in 18th position in the world rankings with a brilliant eighth place and can also celebrate winning the Triumph Triple Trophy.

The LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team would also like to thank Jeremy Alcoba for the trust, the work he has done, and the team spirit he has shown during a season that was at times more difficult than we had hoped and wish him all the best for the future.

Moto2 World Championship 2022 - P11 - 123.5 Points

"This morning everything already felt sentimental. You look at the bike, and you know it's just one more race, but basically, there's so much more. I've been with this team for so long, it's really special. I'm happy that we were able to get another good result today. Unfortunately, I was not able to intervene in the race as I would have liked, it has been rather difficult for me this whole season, especially in the second half. I never felt 100% comfortable on the bike and again I would have liked a single-digit result, but despite everything, it was important to finish and end the season like this. It's emotional, I did a last burn-out in front of the pit garage after the race and celebrated with the team. I haven't really internalized that this is the end of my Moto2 career yet. That probably only comes when I'm home. We had great years, and great results with podiums and pole positions, even if I didn't win. We celebrated successes and it makes me proud that I, as one of the few German racers, have been able to stay in this World Championship class for so long. The podium at the Sachsenring is definitely one of my absolute highlights, not only because we were on the podium, but because the support and the passion of the fans there over the many years were simply incredible.
But I'm not hanging up my helmet just yet. I will continue in the Supersport World Championship and I think I still have many years ahead of me as a racer. Still, it's hard to close this chapter. We will enjoy the evening in the team for sure and then the new adventure will begin."

"After finishing this season I feel like we still have a lot of work to do. We improved a lot after the summer break. We followed a good path and I felt amazing in the team, with the work we've done. Of course, in some races, we were struggling, missing a few bits and pieces to be faster but I am super happy to finish like this, with another top 10 result in the last race. It's always great to feel the potential to fight in the top 10, especially for many consecutive races. This gives me a great push and confidence for the next year. I am happy about the weekend, we went straight to Q2, finished eighth and I won the Triumph Triple Trophy. I am happy and would like to thank the whole team for their work. I am looking forward to next season although we will return to the track as rivals but I will always remember my rookie season and the opportunity given by the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP Team."

"In any case, it was a conciliatory end to the season, but it is much more than that. After six years we are saying goodbye to Marcel, he is part of this family and we haven't really realized that yet. It was nice to have both riders in the top 10 again today. I am super grateful to Marcel for the wonderful time we had together. We have benefited from each other over the years, we have achieved top results, and generally had an unforgettable time together, but he will always be a part of the Intact GP family. Who knows where the roads will lead him, maybe he will come back in a different position.

Jeremy was strong today and I already suspected yesterday that he would give everything in the final. He was very confident last night and proved it in the race, despite the long lap penalty, and that says a lot about his caliber. It was a strong show from him, not only in this race. I wish him all the best for the future and also want to say a special thanks to the whole team for their efforts this year."
