At the age of two and a half years Sandro Cortese began riding on a small motocross motorcycle. Later, he continued with pocket bike. In 2003 and 2004 he participated in the 125cc class of the International German Motorcycle Championship.
His debut in the Motorcycle World Championship was in 2005. He was third in the opening round of the 2009 season in Losail and thus took his first podium in the World Championship. In June 2009 he secured his first pole position in Assen. On August 14, 2011, he celebrated his first Grand Prix victory at the race of Czech Republic.
Outstanding Season 2012
Sandro Cortese is the first winner of the Moto3 World Championship. On 8 July 2012 he won the Sachsenring Grand Prix and thus was the first German, who did so since 41 years. In Sepang (Malaysia), one race before the final, he was already crowned as World Champion. With only two exceptions, Cortese was on the podium after every race. No one else has ever done this before him. Cortese is the fourth German rider who became World Champion in the lightweight class - and the youngest one.
In 2013 he started in Moto2 as a rookie, in 2014 he achieved his first podium.
In his second year in the Moto2, he took five first starts. The absolute highlight was the third place and thus his first Moto2 podium at the Czech Republic GP in Brno. Another podium took place in 2015. As a third in Japan, he was finally able to go back to where he wants to be in the future. But he had to wait a year to finally taste the podium air again. The third place in Australia was like an exemption, after a difficult 2016 season, which was characterized by a knee injury in the first half.
Some things are new in 2017, but the objectives of the determined racer remain unchanged.
Highly motivated and aboard a Suter racing machine, Sandro Cortese faces the 2017 season. To show a consistently good performance and to fight with the fastest guys up front are his stated goals, which he will consistently pursue.
