Aegerter storms to his first win of the season in Le Mans & takes over the World Cup lead

Dominique Aegerter of the Dynavolt Intact GP team was unbeatable in the second MotoE race in Le Mans. With incredible control and precision, the Swiss rider took the win on the last lap ahead of Mattia Casadei and leaves the French GP as the new World Cup leader.

Before that, however, Aegerter, coming from P2, lost two positions in the tumult of the first chicanes, but he didn't flinch for long and regained those lost places when he overtook Hikaro Okubo in turn 2 and Kevin Zannoni in turn 3 of lap 3. From then on, his attention was solely on Mattia Casadai, who was just under a second away and, as in Race 1, was doing the leading work.

The battle for victory finally raged until the eighth and final lap, where the 31-year-old made a brilliant manoeuvre to pass Mattia Casadei and take the lead. He was able to defend himself until the finish line a few corners later and eventually even crossed the line with a +0.567s lead over the Italian.

The 20 points gained on Saturday and the 25 points from Race 2 give the victory-hungry Dominique Aegerter an eight-point lead over Eric Granado in the 2022 MotoE World Cup ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in a fortnight's time where the third round with two more races is on the agenda at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello from 27-29 May 2022.
