Pini scores in P12 & Uriarte finishes his first World Championship appearance in 19th place

In what was a stormy Moto3 race at the Phillip Island Circuit in Australia, Guido Pini and Muñoz's replacement Brian Uriarte fought hard in the second chasing group to get back into the points. LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP rider Pini ultimately finished twelfth, while the reigning Red Bull Rookies Cup champion made a strong debut in his very first ever World Championship race, finishing 19th.

The 4.45-kilometre track off the south coast of Australia provided a thrilling Moto3 LIQUI MOLY Australian Grand Prix on the 19th race Sunday of the season, despite difficult wind conditions.

Guido Pini got off to a solid start, but lost two positions in the first few metres, which he laboriously regained as the race progressed. Towards the middle of the race, the rookie increasingly struggled with his hard tyre choice, which cost him a few places, but the young Italian used his experience in the close Moto3 battle to fight his way back from outside the points to twelfth place. With four more World Championship points, the 17-year-old Intact GP rider moved up to 13th place overall.

Brian Uriarte was also on course for points at one stage. The Spaniard made his Moto3 World Championship debut on his new KTM machine and immediately got to grips with the Australian circuit, which was also new to him. The youngster, who made up four places on the first lap, was right in the points, but had to drop back in several battles during the race and finished his debut in a respectable 19th place – a result that will give him valuable experience for the future.

From 24th to 26th of October, the 20th race of the season will take place in Malaysia, which is also the last overseas race before the Moto3 World Championship returns to European soil.

"The conditions were pretty difficult today because of the wind, and it wasn't easy to adapt to them. But the bigger problem was probably that we opted for the hard tyre, because after a few laps I was already too far behind, and it was difficult to get back to the front. So, I don't think it was the best choice, but we have to accept it. It was a decision made by the team, myself included. In a week's time, there's another overseas race in Sepang, and we're confident that we'll do better there because, as we've seen, the speed is there. So, let’s move over to Malaysia and let's continue as we have been doing. Many thanks to the team for their hard work."

"My first race in Moto3 World Championship wasn't too bad, because I learned a lot today. Overall, however, it was a difficult weekend, as I only had a few laps to familiarize myself with everything after my crash on Friday morning. In addition, the changeable conditions of the last two days weren't exactly helpful. It was an educational weekend for me, and that also applies to the race. Finishing just 30 seconds behind the winner is something we can build on. I'm looking forward to next week in Malaysia, where a lot will still be new to me, but we now have a base, so it should be easier to start the weekend. However, we still have three races ahead of us. So, I think we'll manage to improve our base even further, and then I'll learn a lot again for my future. Many thanks to the entire team for the warm welcome, and I wish David a speedy recovery."

"My thoughts, and I believe those of the entire team, were with David this weekend. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return. Phillip Island was a particular challenge for us this time, as we were here with two rookies. Both Brian and Guido were gaining experience at this track for the very first time. For Brian, however, it was certainly the most difficult start a rookie could imagine. Everything was new to him: the team, the bike, the track, and all that combined with changeable weather, not to mention the long journey to the other side of the world. Given the circumstances, he did very well. The highlight was certainly his performance in qualifying, when he missed Q2 by just one position.But also, Guido did well on both days of practice and put himself in a good position for the race with eighth place on the starting grid. However, we opted for hard tyres for both riders, which may not have been the best choice, but was still acceptable, as two other top guys demonstrated. Guido's race may not have been ideal due to this decision, but at least he did most of the leading work in his group and scored important points. Brian will probably have realized by today at the latest that Moto3 World Championship is at a very high level. But he will have learned a lot this weekend and will take this experience with him to Malaysia. He will build on this to take his next steps there."

Pini punktet als Zwölfter & Uriarte beendet ersten WM-Auftritt als 19.

Im stürmischen Moto3-Rennen auf dem Phillip Island Circuit in Australien kämpften Guido Pini und Muñoz-Ersatzmann Brian Uriarte engagiert in der zweiten Verfolgergruppe um den Anschluss an die Punkteränge. LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP-Pilot Pini belegte schließlich Rang zwölf, während der amtierende Red Bull Rookies Cup Champion in seinem allerersten WM-Lauf mit Platz 19 ein starkes Debüt zeigte.

Die 4,45 Kilometer lange Strecke vor der australischen Südküste bot am 19. Rennsonntag der Saison einen packenden Moto3 LIQUI MOLY Australien Grand Prix unter schwierigen Windbedingungen.

Guido Pini erwischte einen soliden Start, verlor jedoch auf den ersten Metern zwei Positionen, die er sich im weiteren Rennverlauf mühsam zurückeroberte. Zur Rennmitte strauchelte der Rookie zunehmend mit seiner harten Reifenwahl, was ihn einige Plätze kostete, doch der junge Italiener nutzte seine gesammelte Erfahrung im engen Moto3-Kampf, um sich von außerhalb der Punkteränge bis auf Platz zwölf zurückzukämpfen. Mit vier weiteren WM-Punkten rückte der erst 17-jährige Intact GP-Pilot auf den 13. Gesamtrang vor.

Auch Brian Uriarte befand sich zwischenzeitlich auf Punktekurs. Auf der für ihn neuen KTM-Maschine feierte der Spanier sein Moto3-WM-Debüt und kam auf Anhieb gut zurecht mit der ebenfalls unbekannten australischen Rennstrecke. Der Youngster, der in der ersten Runde gleich vier Plätze gut machte, lag damit direkt innerhalb der Punkteränge, musste im Verlauf des Rennens jedoch in mehreren Zweikämpfen zurückstecken und beendete sein Debüt mit einem respektablen 19. Platz – ein Ergebnis, das ihm wertvolle Erfahrungen für die Zukunft beschert.

Vom 24. bis 26. Oktober geht es in Malaysia in den 20. Saisonlauf und zugleich das letzte Übersee-Rennen, bevor die Moto3-WM zurück auf europäischen Boden zurückkehrt.

"Die Bedingungen waren heute aufgrund des Windes ziemlich schwierig. Es war nicht leicht, sich daran anzupassen. Aber das größere Problem war wahrscheinlich von Anfang an, dass wir uns für den harten Reifen entschieden haben, denn nach ein paar Runden lag ich bereits zu weit zurück und es war schwierig, wieder nach vorne zu kommen. Ich denke also, dass es nicht die beste Wahl war, aber wir müssen es akzeptieren. Es war eine Entscheidung des Teams, mich eingeschlossen. In einer Woche steht in Sepang ein weiteres Rennen in Übersee an und wir sind zuversichtlich, dass wir dort besser abschneiden werden, denn wie man gesehen hat, ist der Speed da. Also auf nach Malaysia und dort so weitermachen wie bisher. Vielen Dank an das Team für seine harte Arbeit."

"Mein erstes Rennen in der Weltmeisterschaft war gar nicht so schlecht, denn ich habe heute viel gelernt. Insgesamt war es jedoch ein schwieriges Wochenende, da ich nach meinem Sturz am Freitagmorgen nur wenige Runden Zeit hatte, um mich mit allem vertraut zu machen. Außerdem waren die wechselhaften Bedingungen der letzten Tage nicht gerade hilfreich. Es war ein lehrreiches Wochenende für mich, was auch für das Rennen gilt. Mit nur 30 Sekunden Rückstand auf den Sieger ins Ziel zu kommen, ist etwas, worauf wir aufbauen können. Ich freue mich auf die nächste Woche in Malaysia, wo wieder vieles für mich noch neu sein wird, aber wir haben jetzt eine Basis, sodass es einfacher sein sollte, ins Wochenende zu starten. Wir haben noch drei Rennen vor uns. Ich denke also, dass wir es schaffen werden, unsere Basis noch besser zu machen, und dann werde ich wieder viel lernen. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team für den herzlichen Empfang, und ich wünsche David eine schnelle Genesung."

"Meine Gedanken, und ich denke auch die des gesamten Teams, waren an diesem Wochenende bei David. Wir möchten daher diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um ihm eine schnelle Genesung zu wünschen und freuen uns auf seine Rückkehr. Phillip Island war diesmal eine besondere Herausforderung für uns, da wir mit zwei Rookies hier waren. Sowohl Brian als auch Guido sammelten zum ersten Mal Erfahrungen auf dieser Strecke. Für Brian war es jedoch sicherlich der schwierigste Start, den sich ein Rookie vorstellen kann. Alles war neu für ihn: das Team, das Motorrad, die Strecke, und das alles kombiniert mit wechselhaftem Wetter, ganz zu schweigen von der langen Reise ans andere Ende der Welt. Angesichts dieser Umstände hat er sich sehr gut geschlagen. Der Höhepunkt war sicherlich seine Leistung im Qualifying, als er das Q2 nur um einen Platz verpasste. Aber auch Guido hat die Trainings gut gemeistert und sich mit dem achten Startplatz gute Voraussetzungen für das Rennen geschaffen. Wir haben uns für beide Fahrer für den harten Reifen entschieden, was vielleicht nicht die beste Wahl war, aber dennoch akzeptabel, wie zwei andere Top-Fahrer gezeigt haben. Guidos Rennen war aufgrund dieser Entscheidung vielleicht nicht ideal, aber er hat zumindest den größten Teil der Führungsarbeit in seiner Gruppe geleistet und wichtige Punkte geholt. Brian wird wahrscheinlich spätestens heute erkannt haben, dass sich die Weltmeisterschaft auf einem sehr hohen Niveau befindet. Aber er wird an diesem Wochenende viel gelernt haben und diese Erfahrung mit nach Malaysia nehmen. Darauf wird er aufbauen, um dort seine nächsten Schritte zu machen."
