Baldassarri battles at the top in both Barcelona races
The Italian rider narrowly missed out on his first MotoE victory in the first race. With a second place and a sixth place, he moves to the top of the overall standings on equal points. Hector Garzo finished seventh twice after a difficult weekend.
MotoE rookie Lorenzo Baldassarri continues to gain momentum. For the second time in a row, he secured a place on the front row of the starting grid. In both races on Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Baldassarri was able to take advantage of his excellent starting position and take the lead several times. In the first race, Baldassarri was beaten by Brazilian Eric Granado by just 0.037 seconds.
The second race in the afternoon was just as dramatic as the first. Baldassarri was in the leading group from the start, fought hard for his first victory, and crossed the finish line in third place after seven hard-fought laps. However, he exceeded the track limits once too often, which resulted in a long-lap penalty. However, as there was no time left in the final lap, the penalty was converted to a three-second penalty. Baldassarri was ultimately classified sixth. Nevertheless, he has worked his way to the top of the overall standings and is now tied with his compatriot Mattia Casadei.
On the other side in the team’s garage, the Barcelona weekend was not an easy one for Hector Garzo. Due to problems, he was unable to set a lap time in qualifying, which meant he started from tenth spot on the grid. Starting from the fourth row, the Spaniard quickly caught up in both races but was only able to overtake three riders ahead of him each time on the short distance.
In one week, the 2025 FIM MotoE™️ World Championship will make its penultimate stop at the Misano World Circuit in Italy, where Lorenzo Baldassarri is looking forward to shine in front of his home crowd.
