Muñoz & Pini with top qualifying at Balaton Park Circuit
David Muñoz and Guido Pini from the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP team fought an exciting battle in qualifying at the new Balaton Park Circuit. In the end, the two talented riders secured fifth and sixth places in qualifying – and with them a promising second row start for the 14th race of the season.
A race weekend on a previously unknown track means twice the work: there is no reference data or experience to draw on. The teams and riders have to work together perfectly to be competitive quickly – and that is exactly what the German Intact GP team achieved impressively on the 4.08-kilometre track in Hungary as Muñoz and Pini finished in the top 10 in all sessions.
19-year-old Spaniard David Muñoz started the weekend strongly with fourth place in the first free practice session. Finishing seventh in practice, he immediately qualified for Q2. With consistent work, he improved by more than a second on Saturday morning in FP2 compared to the previous day – a clear statement.
In the 15-minute Q2 session, Muñoz was among the leaders at times, but was unable to repeat his best time from the morning. However, with a time of 1:46.324, he confidently secured fifth place on the grid in row two.
Teammate Guido Pini is right next to him in sixth place. The 17-year-old Italian immediately got to grips with the narrow and demanding track. He caused a stir by finishing first in FP1, before impressing again in practice with a significant improvement in his lap time and a third place. He finished the FP2 in tenth place, before once again mixing it at the front in qualifying and ultimately completing the second row of the grid in P6.
The pace of both KTM riders is promising, so fans can look forward to an exciting 20-lap race on Sunday. The race starts at 11:00 a.m. (CEST) – and Muñoz and Pini have the best chances of fighting for the top spots.
