Strong points gain for the Dynavolt Intact GP team at the Balaton Park Circuit
The Dynavolt Intact GP team leaves the fourth MotoE race of the season at the Balaton Park Circuit with a second and fourth place for Lorenzo Baldassarri and a seventh and fifth place for teammate Hector Garzo.
Friday's qualifying session already indicated that Lorenzo Baldassarri had the new 4.08-kilometre race track in Hungary well under control. Starting from second on the grid, the Italian got off to a perfect start, took the lead after the first chicane and confidently extended his advantage. However, a heavy crash by Tibor Erik Varga led to the race being red flagged and restarted over just four laps. Baldassarri got off to another excellent start, maintaining his strong second place to the finish line despite several attacks. In the second race, which was shortened from eight to seven laps, the 28-year-old got off to another strong start and initially led the race. However, halfway through the race, he was beaten by Mattia Casadei and two other rivals on the final lap. Fourth place still earned him valuable 13 points, which, together with the 20 points from race 1, meant he moved up to second place in the world championship.
For Hector Garzo, it was already clear on Friday that the weekend on the new track would not be an easy one. In the first race, the Spaniard initially worked his way up to ninth place at the start before the aforementioned race was stopped. After the restart, he remained in seventh place without being able to get involved in the battle for the podium places. But in the second race, the 27-year-old improved significantly: he was already in seventh place after the start, fought his way up to fifth place in a controlled manner and set the fastest laps several times. In a thrilling finale, he narrowly defended his position and took a total of 20 World Championship points from Hungary.
The Dynavolt Intact GP team will continue on the 5th – 6th of September at the fifth race of the season in Barcelona, where the battle for this year's World Championship title will enter the next round.
