Muñoz risks and wins, Pini shines in seventh place

The LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team had every reason to celebrate at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi. David Muñoz risked it all in the rain – and won his third race of the season by a clear margin. Team-mate Guido Pini impressed with a comeback despite a double long lap and finished in a strong seventh place.

"The world belongs to the brave" – David Muñoz impressively embodied this motto in the exciting 17-lap Moto3 race in Motegi. The Spaniard laid a perfect foundation right from the start and was among the top three after just a few corners. Even the drizzle that set in on lap two couldn't stop him, so he took the lead on lap six and pulled away at full throttle. He built up a lead of over 2.3 seconds and controlled it until the finish. With this third victory of the season, the Intact GP rider has reduced his deficit to the top three in the World Championship to just seven points.

Meanwhile, Guido Pini faced the biggest challenge of the day at the Japanese Grand Prix. After receiving a double long-lap penalty, the 17-year-old started the race as an underdog. But the Moto3 rookie managed the situation smartly: first finding his rhythm, then completing both penalty laps in succession, and then staging a spirited comeback from 15th place. He kept his cool on the slippery track, fought lap after lap and rewarded himself with seventh place in the final stages, earning him nine more World Championship points.

With the momentum from Japan, the German Intact GP Team is now highly motivated as they travel to the next showdown – the Indonesian Grand Prix in Mandalika this coming weekend.

"I am super happy because it was a very important day for me and the team. Despite the rain, I pushed myself hard when I saw the riders ahead of me, even though it wasn't easy because of the slippery track. But gradually I developed a good feel for the conditions and gave it my all right to the end. In the end, I won. Another important victory for me and the championship, and of course for the team and everyone around me. Now I'm looking forward to Indonesia, where I really like the track. But as always, we'll take the weekend step by step and then see what we can do on Sunday. But first of all, a big thank you to the team!"

"I am more than satisfied because it was a really good race for us, even though it wasn't easy to come back to the front guys after two long laps. But I have to say, luckily it started to rain a little because I was feeling really good in these conditions. I was able to catch up faster and was finally in the group where I gave my best. In the end, I finished in 7th place, which is a very good result considering the two long laps. Now I'm looking forward to Indonesia where I want to do even better. "David and Guido got off to a good start to the weekend, qualifying directly for Q2 on Friday, finishing first and tenth respectively. But their starting positions in seventh and ninth were also fine. Unfortunately, Guido received a penalty in the form of a double long lap after practice. This meant he faced a difficult task in the race. David correctly assessed the situation in the decisive stages of the race today when it started to rain slightly and built up a small lead, which he confidently managed until the finish line. That was a very strong performance from him – congratulations! We are very happy about his third win of the season. But Guido's performance in the race was also very strong. Despite the double long lap, he finished the race in seventh place, and he also set the fastest race laps. Guido also correctly assessed the situation in the rain and was able to close the gap and make up many positions. Both riders put in a really strong performance today. A big thank you to the entire team; the first flyaway race was a great success for us."
