Gonzalez shines with a strong catch-up at the Sachsenring - Agius fights his way up to P11

The Moto2 race at the Sachsenring was exciting right from the start: Senna Agius from the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team was penalised with a double long lap penalty after a jump start. However, the young Australian was not discouraged by this and fought his way impressively from the back of the field to eleventh place. Team-mate Manuel Gonzalez impressed with an equally impressive recovery from P16 to P4.

Manuel Gonzalez showed his well-known strong pace for large parts of the weekend and delivered an impressive performance in the race at the Sachsenring. After a rainy qualifying session on Saturday, conditions improved again for the eleventh race of the season. Gonzalez, who started the race from 16th on the grid, quickly found his rhythm and worked his way up position by position. After a few retirements by some of his rivals, the 22-year-old Spaniard was in fourth place when the race was stopped on the 21st of 25 laps. As two thirds of the race distance had already been completed, the race was not restarted. Gonzalez thus secured 13 championship points and extended his lead over Aron Canet to nine points.

Senna Agius takes five championship points home from the Sachsenring. Despite his jump start and the harsh penalty, the 20-year-old showed great fighting spirit: After serving two long lap penalties, Agius started a remarkable race to catch up from 23rd place. When the race was stopped on lap 20, he was in eleventh place. The ambitious Aussie is already looking forward to the next race in Brno, which takes place in just a week's time from 18th - 20th of July, and hopes to launch another attack on the top spot there.

The LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team once again demonstrated team spirit and stamina at the Sachsenring - and will travel to the next World Championship round in the neighbouring Czech Republic with valuable points in their luggage.

"It was a super tough race today. My start was good, but then there was a lot of contacts with other riders on the first lap. It was a super crazy first lap because I almost crashed several times. Luckily, I stayed on the bike. Nevertheless, it was all about survival until the end. Due to the track conditions, it was easy to crash because the front and rear were sliding a lot. Our pace was really strong, so we were able to catch up well. I think it would have been possible to finish on the podium, but the red flag prevented that. That's why we missed out on a few more points. It's a bit of a shame, but with fourth place we still scored very valuable points for the championship. I'm happy with that, but we always want more and are looking forward to Brno, where we want to fight for victory again."

"Unfortunately, I made that mistake again. I'm sorry for the team and I'm annoyed with myself because I think we could have fought for victory today. So, I apologize for my mistake. But in a few days, we can gofor the win again in Brno. So, I think the feelings are to imagine. Apart from that, the race went normally because I had a good pace. As expected, I could have fought for the win because I knew I could catch up. Unfortunately, we lost five laps due to the incident, which cost me a top ten position at least. We scored a few points, but nowhere near what we wanted to achieve. Once again, my apologies to the team."

"With a win in the bag, of course, it is easy to talk about a strong weekend. But both riders rode a strong Moto3 race and to top it all off with a win is just great. David showed an outstanding performance and also proved that he is becoming more and more stable. He has already shown this in the past races, and we hope that things will continue like this with him. For us it is of course doubly nice that he has taken his second victory in our home race. Congratulations to the entire Moto3 team. They did a first-class job this weekend."

"In any case, we also have to be satisfied with the results in Moto2. Of course, we're not super happy after not quite making it onto the podium. Nevertheless, Manu's fourth place is very good, because he has extended his lead in the championship. I think he might even have made it onto the podium if the race hadn't been stopped. It was a shame for Senna because of the two long laps he had to complete. With a penalty like that, of course, you can't move any further forward. He certainly had the pace for the podium. But we have to be satisfied with what we have achieved and are already looking forward to Brno, because I think the track there is good ground for us and we should be very competitive again with our riders in a week's time."
