Muñoz storms back to P7 after early setback, Pini scores in ninth place

The Moto3 race at the Misano World Circuit offered 20 laps of pure excitement. David Muñoz impressed with a spectacular comeback and finished the 16th race of the season in seventh place. LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP teammate Guido Pini also scored points in ninth place at his home race.

David Muñoz catapulted himself from fifth on the grid to second place within a few corners in an aggressive opening lap. But in a close duel with Valentin Perrone, the Spaniard had to sit up and go wide to avoid a collision, which threw him back to 19th place. Thanks to his incredibly strong pace on the Intact GP KTM, however, the 19-year-old fought his way back impressively until he finally took seventh place and nine valuable World Championship points.

Guido Pini also put in a strong performance. Starting from 16th on the grid, the local hero worked his way up into the top 10 step by step. At one point, the 17-year-old even battled it out with his team-mate, but ultimately had to give way and crossed the finish line in ninth place. For Pini, it was already his ninth points finish this season.

After the demanding Barcelona-Misano double-header, the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP riders now have two weeks to recover before the overseas phase kicks off in Motegi from 26th to 28th of September.

"My race was good, apart from a mistake in the early stages. It was my fault, so I would like to apologize to my team for that. After that, I had good pace and was able to fight my way back up to seventh place at the end. That's positive. But once again, I'm sorry to the team and I would like to thank them very much for all their hard work over the weekend. Now it's on to the overseas races. We'll see you again in Japan, where we'll continue to attack."

"P9 is ultimately okay, considering that we started from P16 on the grid. If I had started further up the grid, I wouldn't have been satisfied with the result. Nevertheless, I tried to do my best the whole time, even though it wasn't an easy race because I lost the front group early on. It was difficult to keep up with them. But I got the most out of it when I was able to close the gap to a rider in front of me. That's positive, as is the fact that my fastest lap in the race was good enough for a start from third or fourth row. So, today I was a bit more again back on par with the guys at the front, which we can be happy about. Now we're looking forward to the trip to the first overseas race in Japan, especially me, as it's my first time there, as well as in Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia. I'm really excited to see what awaits me there. Many thanks to the team, because Misano wasn't an easy weekend for us, but we were able to finish in the top 10 again."

"By qualifying directly for Q2, our two riders once again proved their competitiveness. David was outstanding on Saturday morning with the fastest time in FP2. The race went very well for Guido. Starting from 16th on the grid and finishing ninth was a very good performance from him. He worked his way up to the front of the first chasing pack. On the other hand, the race was rather unfortunate for David due to the collision with Perrone. This incident threw him back to 19th place. After that, his comeback was really something to behold. It was impressive that he didn't lose any time during the overtaking manoeuvres. Seventh place was the maximum possible. He caught up with the chasing group and overtook all the riders there. The nine points for seventh place are not only important for the championship, but also a small reward for his performance. Of course, he is very disappointed because he knew he could have fought for the win today. But considering the circumstances, we are more than satisfied."
