Garzo with double podium in Spielberg – Baldassarri now third in the World Championship

The Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE Team has every reason to celebrate at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg: Hector Garzo returned to the podium twice with a second and third place, while rookie Lorenzo Baldassarri moved up to third place in the World Championship with two strong fifth places.

Hector Garzo made an impressive comeback at the 4.35-kilometre Red Bull Ring after a difficult start to the season with two injuries. Starting from fourth on the grid, the Spaniard immediately secured second place in Race 1 and held it confidently until the finish line. He got off to another strong start in the second race and even took the lead on lap three, but was pushed off the racing line by Matteo Ferrari in a tough duel and fell back to fifth place. However, Garzo fought his way back with a determined final sprint and claimed third place – his second podium of the day. Thanks to 36 World Championship points, he improved from 11th to 7th in the overall standings and minimised his gap to the top to 34 points.

Lorenzo Baldassarri also shone in Spielberg with his consistency. The 28-year-old Italian collected another 22 points with two fifth places, jumping to third place in the world championship for the first time. Although he still lacked the pace to secure a podium finish, the points he secured are an important foundation in the title fight. He now travels to the next race weekend in Hungary with momentum on his side – a completely new track for all MotoE riders.

The German team has now also taken the lead in the team standings and hopes to extend it further in just one week at Balaton Park.

"I am, of course, extremely happy about our comeback this weekend! We have been through a lot in recent months due to these crashes and the following operations. But above all, it was a huge mental challenge to overcome. Overall, it hasn't been an easy time for me after the crash in Barcelona and again in Le Mans, as well as another operation after Assen. Ultimately, we have to focus on the positive things. So, it's good to be back with two podium finishes, and I think the most important thing is to show our potential. That underlines that we are ready to fight. Nevertheless, I'm not 100% satisfied because I think I could have achieved a little more this weekend. But that will come with time, and we just have to focus on doing our job as usual and giving our best on every track. Physically, I can say that I'm back to 100 percent fitness thanks to the work I've done with my physiotherapist, my personal trainer, and my doctors. I think I'm back to full strength, even though you always try to find a little more. I'm confident that will come soon. Thanks to the team, you've done a great job again!"

"I am very happy because it was a good day for the whole team, as we had two good races today. I would also like to congratulate Hector on his two podium finishes. We definitely scored a lot of points because we all gave our best. Unfortunately, we had some problems in the first race, especially in the chicane. In the second race, we could have fought for the win, but since we started from the back, I got caught up in some battles that cost us time. But then I recovered well with a good rhythm and finished just behind the podium. So, we can be satisfied, and that also gives me confidence, because at this track, I struggle a bit on the many straights here due to my physical nature. But we made the best of the situation and are leaving this beautiful place in third place in the championship. Many thanks to the entire team, keep up the good work and continue to improve."
