Gonzalez scores yet another front row start - Agius right behind him on row 2!
The British Grand Prix is once again one of the most demanding stops on the racing calendar this year. Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius from the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team were in absolute top form on both practice days and qualified for the seventh round of the season with grid positions two and five.
For the seventh time in a row this season, Manuel Gonzalez is on the front row of the grid. The Spaniard opened the Silverstone weekend with the fastest time in the first free practice session. He confirmed this strong performance in qualifying with a further improvement and went into Saturday as the top favourite for pole. The morning of the qualifying day saw cool and damp conditions on the traditional 5.9-kilometre circuit. Fortunately, it remained dry in the decisive Qualifying 2 session in the afternoon, but the world championship leader kept things exciting right to the end. After his laps in the first run got cancelled due to a yellow flag and he struggled with a minor technical problem in the second run, he had to put all his cards on just one final attack.
This lap was enough to catapult him into second place on the grid - just 0.148 seconds behind pole setter Aron Canet. As a result, he is once again one of the favourites for Sunday's race.
Team-mate Senna Agius was in second place a few seconds before the end of qualifying, but numerous red sectors from his competitors signalled a thrilling Q2 finale. The Australian was among the top positions throughout the entire seventh race weekend and even finished second in qualifying on Friday afternoon. Agius will start the opening race on Sunday at 11:15 local time (12:15 CEST) from fifth on the second row of the grid. The 19-year-old hopes to be able to confirm his strong performance over the 17 race laps.
