Senna Agius celebrates sensational debut win at Silverstone

What a memorable day at the legendary Silverstone Circuit! Senna Agius has written motorsport history and caused pure euphoria in the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team with a breathtaking debut victory. While team-mate Manuel Gonzalez retired early from the race after an unfortunate crash, the 19-year-old Australian crowned himself the radiant winner of the Moto2 race with a superb performance.

Senna Agius' start already raised hopes of a successful Silverstone Grand Prix: From fifth position, the Aussie catapulted himself directly into third place and was involved in the leading group right from the start. What followed was a race full of high tension, thrilling overtaking manoeuvres and nerve-wracking slipstream duels. Over 17 laps, Agius defied the treacherous gusts of wind in bright sunshine and showed his impressive skills when last year's Moto2 rookie struck ice-cold at the decisive moment: While Aron Canet and David Alonso fought a fierce duel, Agius seized his chance, squeezed past them both in a furious final attack and raced to his first Moto2 victory to the cheers of the entire team - a triumph that gave everyone watching goosebumps.

For Manuel Gonzalez, on the other hand, race Sunday was less fortunate. The Spaniard dropped back nine positions at the start, but with a fierce will he fought his way forwards lap by lap. He even managed to set the fastest lap of the race before heavy winds pushed him and the Belgian into the gravel as he overtook Barry Baltus on the inside of turn 6. Fortunately uninjured, Gonzalez remains at the top of the World Championship by a wafer-thin margin despite this setback and is looking ahead with determination to the next race in Aragon, where the 22-year-old will be looking to prove his role as favourite once again in front of his home crowd.

With this historic victory by Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez's continued strong position in the World Championship, the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team is well prepared for the upcoming challenges at the eighth round of the season in Spain from 6th - 9th of June 2025.

Moto2 World Championship 2025 - P6 - 64 Points

"I’m super happy but to be honest, I didn't expect what happened today because every time I tried to get to the front, I was constantly overtaken on the straights. The race was actually the most physically demanding session of the weekend because the lap times were so slow due to the wind. That's why we were overtaking each other in every corner. So, I tried to come up with a strategic plan. First, I overtook Moreira, and I knew I had to push to get close to Alonso and Canet. I was able to close the gap straight away in the first sector and tried to do my best on the back straight and saw Canet when he was on the inside. I knew that corner was coming faster than you think and when I went wide myself, I almost lost the front, but in the last corner I was on the inside. I was praying until the finish line and now I'm a Grand Prix winner, which is incredible. When I crossed the finish line, I started crying and stopped in turn one, looking up to the sky because I dedicate this victory to my grandfather who passed away and who was instrumental when I started my career in Europe. Last but not least, I would like to thank my team for the work and support that made it possible for me to climb to the top step of the podium in a world championship race."

"It was a very difficult race because I had a problem at the start after the launch control didn't work on the sighting lap. So I tried to start without it, but that was very difficult and I lost a lot of positions. Then I tried to stay calm and make up ground, but also to avoid mistakes. But because of the strong wind, it wasn't easy to overtake other riders. When I tried to overtake Baltus, a gust of wind caught me and pushed me to the outside. So I couldn't prevent myself from colliding with him. I'm sorry that his race was ruined as a result. We lost a lot of points as a result, but it's not a big disaster because we're still leading the championship. We will work towards Aragon and carry on as before, because Aragon is a really good track for us. Nevertheless, I'm sorry for the team, but I congratulate Senna on his first win in the championship."

"Congratulations to Senna! We knew that he would be there in the race, that was very clear to us. But we didn't expect him to win his first Grand Prix today, even though we were hoping for a strong result. We haven't really realized it yet, because Senna is something very special for us. We saw him at some point in Spain and were convinced by him from the very first moment. So, we said to ourselves that we would start the project with him, because he has something special and potantial. Today he confirmed it very impressively. Congratulations once again on his masterful performance today."

"Unfortunately, everything turned out differently for Manu today. He was outstanding on Friday and also on Saturday morning. In qualifying he had a problem with the electronics, so he had to restart the system and lost the few seconds he would have needed to cross the finish line before the time ran out so that he could have done a second lap, which probably would have been enough for pole position. But that doesn't matter now. We knew that Manu had a bit more than the others, especially towards the end of the race. But even for him it would have been difficult to pull away because of the wind. Nevertheless, we were pretty sure that he could make it, even if it wouldn't have been a foregone conclusion. But it didn't happen, because after the botched start he had to work his way forward until he crashed. We still have many races ahead of us and we know that Manu has a bit more ability than his opponents at the moment. We are also convinced that he will get over this crash quickly and mentally. We will attack again with him in Aragon."
