Pini strong seventh in Silverstone thriller, Muñoz crashes through no fault of his own

In the Moto3 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit, LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP rider David Muñoz retired early from the seventh race of the season following a crash of no fault of his own, while Moto3 rookie Guido Pini was in the thick of the top fight and crossed the finish line in seventh place after 15 challenging laps.

Under bright blue skies, but with strong gusts of wind that made the bikes difficult to control, the legendary Silverstone Circuit showed its challenging side on the seventh race Sunday of the season. Guido Pini was unfazed by this despite his limited World Championship experience. The Italian battled determinded from the start in the leading group of over fifteen riders and fought numerous duels. At times, the 17-year-old was even in fifth place, eventually finishing seventh and scoring championship points for the fourth time this season. With the nine points, the Moto3 rookie improved to 14th place in the world championship.

Team-mate David Muñoz, on the other hand, leaves the UK with no points. The Spaniard got off to a rocket start, briefly taking the lead on the third lap and proving with his strong pace that a lot was possible on this stormy Sunday. In a duel with Luca Lunetta, however, Muñoz was touched by the Italian and lost control of his KTM - a crash through no fault of his own that cost him another top result, like his recent third place at Le Mans. Despite this setback, the 18-year-old is looking forward with a fighting spirit: the Aragon Grand Prix, his next home race and the eighth race of the season, is already on the agenda from the 6th to 8th of June - the perfect opportunity for revenge.

"Both riders also showed very consistent performances in each practice session this weekend. No matter what the conditions were like, whether dry, wet or mixed, David and Guido were always competitive. That gave us confidence for the race, even if the grid positions - seven for David and ten for Guido - were not exactly ideal. Nevertheless, they were still good for a Moto3 race. Today's race was very different from the point of view of our riders. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to get both of them to the finish line."

"Guido fought in the leading group until the very end. In the large group, which comprised no less than 15 riders, he finished in seventh place. That was a very strong and consistent performance from him. David rode right at the front and sometimes led the race. Unfortunately, he was again brought down by another rider. That was the end of his race. The retirement is very annoying because it was the second time this year. We are very sorry for David and the damage to the bike is enormous. But what hurts more is the lost opportunity to have been on the podium with David. But we are looking ahead and in Aragon we will try to place both riders at the front."
