Gonzalez unchallenged pole setter in France with record lap
Manuel Gonzalez from the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team continued his impressive run and also dominated Moto2 qualifying at the French Grand Prix. The Spaniard secured his fifth pole position of the season with a sensational time of 1'34.315. In doing so, he broke his own lap record and is on the front row of the grid for the sixth time in a row - and that at only the sixth race of the year. Team-mate Senna Agius qualified in 14th place and will line up on the fifth row on Sunday.
Manuel Gonzalez has impressed with his consistently strong performance since the very start of the season. The Spaniard also set the pace on both practice days at the traditional Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans: Fastest in the first free practice session, fastest in practice and again at the top in qualifying. The 22-year-old took the lead right at the start of the sunny qualifying session and never relinquished it until the end. With his new best time of 1'34.315 and thus the new all-time lap record, he once again underlined his role as the favourite for the race starting on Sunday at 12:15 (CEST).
For his Australian team-mate Senna Agius, the qualifying went less well, which means he will have a little more work to do in the 22-lap race. His performance so far on this sixth race weekend of 2025 has been enough to take him straight into Q2, where the 19-year-old finished 14th, 0.792s behind Gonzalez at the front. Nevertheless, Agius has already proven on several occasions that he can optimally utilise the potential of both rider and machine, especially in the race, which is why a top result from the fifth row of the grid is also possible for him.
Changeable weather conditions could provide additional excitement on Sunday, as rain is expected just in time for the start of the race and in spite of that a new spectator record is predicted at the legendary Bugatti Circuit on the outskirts of Le Mans - the best setting for a spectacular Moto2 race.
