Senna Agius claims his maiden Moto2 pole in Buriram
The 20-year-old Australian secured pole position in an incredibly close qualifying session on Saturday afternoon at the first Grand Prix of the new season in Thailand. His team mate Manuel Gonzalez took seventh place.
It was a perfect first qualifying Saturday of the year for LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP: after claiming the top spot on the Moto3 grid, the team from Memmingen also took pole position in the Moto2 class.
Senna Agius took centre stage. The talented rider from Australian has delivered a flawless performance so far this weekend. While Agius focused mainly on Sunday's race during the practice sessions, he literally exploded in qualifying. His determined performance was ultimately rewarded with pole position.
Manuel Gonzalez, last year’s runner-up in the championship, went into the second day of practice at the Chang International Circuit with high expectations after setting the fastest time in Friday afternoon’s Practice session. Various circumstances prevented the 23-year-old Spaniard from preparing optimally for qualifying, where he also had bad luck with yellow flag signals. Gonzalez will start his title fight on Sunday from seventh place on the third row.
The first race of the 2026 FIM Moto2™ World Championship season will start on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. Thai time (7:15 a.m. CET).
