Intact GP double front row with Gonzalez & Agius as first and third on the grid

Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius have impressively secured pole position and third place on the grid in Moto2 qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera. The LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP duo will therefore start the fifth round of the 2025 season from the front row together.

Manuel Gonzalez underlined his role as favourite right at the start of the weekend. After a third place in the first free practice session, the local hero set the fastest time in practice on Friday and qualified confidently for Q2. In qualifying, the 22-year-old fought a close duel for pole position, including with his team-mate Senna Agius. In the end, Gonzalez came out on top with a strong 1'39.858 to take his fourth pole of the season. For the fifth time in a row, the current world championship runner-up will start from the front row of the grid and wants to finish in front of his home crowd in the same position from which he will start tomorrow.

Senna Agius also caused a stir in the German racing team. The Australian showed a consistent performance with a fourth place in FP1, fourth place again in practice and fifth place in FP2. In the decisive qualifying session, the 19-year-old was even in the lead at times, but was ultimately beaten by Gonzalez and Albert Arenas by just 0.068 seconds. With third place on the grid, Agius achieved his best qualifying result of the current season so far and can hope for a successful 21-lap race on Sunday at 12:15 (CEST).

"I'm super happy because it's the most difficult pole position of the year so far. To do it today is very important, because it's really difficult to do a good race on this this track. If you start far back, it's difficult to recover and overtake other people. That's why it's very important for us to start from one of the front positions, because all the riders are very fast here and the competition is very close, not only on one lap but also in terms of race pace. It will be a tough race to be there on every lap and not make any mistakes but this pole position gives us confidence. So, our plan is simply to get away as well as we can at the start and finish in the same position as today. It's our fourth pole position this season, but I'm struggling a bit in some corners, but I'm not too worried about that because we're fast on all the tracks we've visited so far this season. Jerez is always a very mentally demanding race because there are a lot of laps to do. So, we need a good start, to get to the front of the field straight away and then set our own pace."

Senna Agius

"It was a good day. We were really fast this morning and did a good run with a view to the race, which is also positive. Also, the atmosphere in the team is really positive and I feel good with the bike. I did my best in qualifying, but honestly, I was on the limit. On our second run with the new tyre, I made a mistake on the first lap. So, I did my time on the lap after that, which wasn't perfect either because I made another small mistake. Nevertheless, we are very close to pole position, and I am very happy to be on the front row for the first time. A big thank you to the guys around me, to my team, because to be rewarded with this is really nice. I also think that tomorrow can be a really nice day for our team, but we have to stay calm and keep our pace in the race. All in all, though, I'm super proud of everyone. So, the podium is the goal, but honestly, we know what can happen in a race. So, I'm just going to do my job as best I can. Jerez is an incredible weekend, personally I'm very happy up to this point. To finish on the podium couldn't be better for us."
