Gonzalez wins in Jerez & Agius crowns the double podium

The LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team celebrated a real Sunday fairytale at the fifth round of the Moto2 season in Jerez de la Frontera: Manuel Gonzalez secured a commanding start-finish victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, while team-mate Senna Agius finished third with a strong performance.

Having already started the race from pole position, local hero Manuel Gonzalez defended his lead over the entire 21-lap distance and gave his rivals no chance. In front of thousands of enthusiastic fans on the 4.42-kilometre Andalusian circuit, the 22-year-old crossed the finish line 2.256 seconds ahead of Barry Baltus to retake the lead in the championship standings. It was Gonzalez's second win of the season and fourth podium in just five races - an impressive start to the season that raises high expectations for the remaining 17 races.

Senna Agius also had all the reasons to be happy: The Australian defended his third grid position despite strong attacks, especially from Diogo Moreira, who tried to take the 16 championship points from him. In a dramatic final phase, the 19-year-old Aussie finally held his ground, securing his second podium of the season and improving from 12th to 7th place in the championship standings.

The next Moto2 race at the legendary Le Mans Circuit in France (9th -11th of May) will provide the next opportunity to collect valuable points in just two weeks' time.

"I'm over the moon because it was a perfect weekend. To finish every day in first position and set the fastest lap time in the race is just incredible. Perfect is the right word for it, because to achieve this here in Spain in front of this fantastic crowd with all the enthusiastic fans is just incredible. Something like this doesn't happen so often in your life when you have everything in your hands and can enjoy it. So, I want to enjoy this success and thank everyone who has contributed to making this dream that I fought for come true. Today's race reminds me of what I've been dreaming of for a long time. I am incredibly happy!"
"Honestly, I didn't expect to be able to pull out such a big lead in the race, because the pace of the other guys was very similar on Friday and also yesterday. Maybe even closer than in Thailand. But I approached the race at my own pace, pushed to the limit and never went beyond that. I just rode the way I knew I could and was able to pull out a big lead. That helped me in the final laps, because the rear tyre was difficult to manage and was already sliding a lot. So, I tried to stay calm and finish the race in first place. Last year I was P3 here in Spain, this year I won, it's just incredible."

"I am very happy. It wasn't an easy race because it was very long in terms of the tyres. I had a good start and was behind Manu, but I had problems in some key areas. When I got passed by two other riders, I thought I had lost because the race would be difficult for me with the front tyre. But I stayed calm and caught up with them again and attacked at the end with a nice battle. I'm proud of that because we managed to catch up and get ourselves back in the game. So that shows that we are strong. A big thank you to all the guys and girls at Intact GP, the team is working fantastically. But congratulations to the whole team for another double podium, which is very important. Not just for me, because we are back where I think we belong after a slightly more difficult time. We worked seamlessly this weekend. I really wanted my first win, but to be honest, the third place is great too. In the end, though, everyone was as happy as I was. So, a big thank you to them and also to the support from Australia, where my family watched the race."
