Strong performance in Portimão: O'Gorman impresses with P6, Pini competitive until crash

Another exciting weekend lies behind the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team. At the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimão, Guido Pini put in a strong performance and fought at the front of the field until his crash shortly before the end of the race. Casey O'Gorman secured an outstanding sixth place after a thrilling battle for positions, once again underlining his future ambitions in the Moto3 World Championship.

Right from the start, current JuniorGP rider Casey O'Gorman got off to a sensational start and was already in fifth place on the first lap. The penultimate race of the Moto3 season was marked by countless overtaking manoeuvres – with the 18-year-old Irishman right in the thick of it. O'Gorman maintained an impressive pace throughout the entire 19-lap race, capitalising on his rivals' mistakes and fighting his way to the front once again in the final stages. With clever manoeuvres, he prevailed against renowned opponents and crossed the finish line in sixth place. This earned him ten valuable World Championship points – a sensational result in only his third World Championship appearance.

Guido Pini started from fifth place and initially lost a few positions in the dense field. However, his strong pace soon became apparent, keeping him in the front ranks of the leading group for much of the race. There he was involved in an intense four-way battle for the podium places. At times, both Intact GP riders even fought side by side – with numerous position changes and spectacular duels. Towards the middle of the race, the Italian grew stronger and stronger, attacking decisively, moving up to third place and keeping in direct contact with the leading group for a while. However, after several tough battles, the 17-year-old rookie had to give up a few positions. On lap 15, he finally lost his front, crashed and fortunately remained uninjured.

Now, only one last highlight awaits the talented young duo: in just a few days, the big season finale will take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, where the German racing team hopes to bid farewell to the 2025 Moto3 season with a final bang.

"It was another good race because I was always at the front and felt really good. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake four laps before the end when I hit a bump and crashed. Maybe I braked a bit too hard at that moment. But, as in Malaysia, we were in the leading group, even though they were bigger today and it was more difficult to get on the podium, for example. The good thing, however, is that we showed our potential again and I was able to push because the feeling with the bike was great. It's a shame that the race ended with zero points again, but I definitely wanted to achieve a good result. To do that, though, you have to see the checkered flag. I'm sorry for the team because I didn't expect this mistake when turning into that corner. Fortunately, we have Valencia in a week, where we can achieve a good result and end the season in style. Thanks to the team for their work and great support."

"I am really very happy because we had a very good race. I was in the leading group all the race, even though I made a small mistake with seven laps to go and fell back a little. Unfortunately, that happened just as the leaders started to push. This caused the group to split up a bit. But I managed to make up the lost places. Apart from our good race, I'm also happy because I improved from session to session and also from qualifying to the race. To finish my first race in Moto3 World Championship just one second off the podium is simply incredible. So, a big thank you to the entire Intact GP team, I really enjoyed this weekend. They helped me in every way and kept me calm for the race. They also provided me with a good bike that I could fight with. I’m looking forward to Valencia, to continue there our work with them.»

""he second-last race weekend of the season here in Portimao got off to a somewhat difficult start, as we unexpectedly had to replace Brian Uriarte. However, we found a good replacement in Casey O'Gorman, who really deserved this opportunity. Casey already put in a convincing performance on Friday when he went straight into Q2 on his first outing with a KTM. On Saturday, he qualified for seventh place with which he confirmed this performance once again in impressive fashion. Guido, on the other hand, showed his potential with fifth place on the grid after a somewhat difficult start. This gave us a good starting position for the race with both riders.
In today’s race, both riders were battling in the leading group until Guido crashed shortly before the end and had to retire. Casey showed in the race that he is already riding at a very high level and finished sixth in his first Grand Prix, just four seconds behind the winner. We are very proud to have brought another young rider into the World Championship, and his strong result also clearly demonstrated our performance as a team. In a few days, we will head to Valencia for the final Grand Prix of the year, where we hope that our two young riders can successfully conclude the season."
