Garzo takes P2 in close qualifying battle, Krummenacher P7

After dry practice sessions, capricious weather at the Sachsenring brought heavy rain for qualifying, which DYNAVOLT INTACT GP MotoE rider Hector Ganzo in particular coped with perfectly. The Spaniard will start Saturday's two sprint races from second on the grid, while Randy Krummenacher will start the battles in seventh place.

Friday morning's LIQUI MOLY Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland got off to a tranquil start with the first MotoE practice session, in which Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher finished fastest. In the second practice session, the 33-year-old rode the best top speed values and ended up in fourth position before qualifying. As predicted, the first rain clouds moved over the Saxon circuit at the gates of Hohenstein-Ernstthal around noon, but the rain a few minutes before the start of qualifying reshuffled the cards. In Q2, the times were over seven seconds slower than in the dry P2. Krummenacher eventually finished seventh after a strong start to practice and will start from the third row for the two races at the Sachsenring on Saturday.

While Krummenacher excelled in the dry, Hector Garzo showed he has plenty of confidence in his Ducati V21L machine in the spray rain at the 3.67km Sachsenring. In the morning Garzo was already in the mix with a fourth place in the first practice and a third place in the second. In Q2, the Spaniard set one fastest time after another and fought tooth and nail for his first pole position of the season. His 1:34.775 was beaten by compatriot Jordi Torres by 0.174s at the end of the exciting ten-minute qualifying session.

The races of the third World Championship round start at 12:15 (CEST) and 16:10 (CEST).
