Great anticipation for Down Under
It is now three years since the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team celebrated a great success at Phillip Island thanks to the third place of then team rider Tom Lüthi. For the third penultimate race weekend of 2022, both Marcel Schrötter and rookie colleague Jeremy Alcoba are striving for very personal triumphs for themselves and their crews.
After finishing 15th in the rain chaos of the Thailand Grand Prix a fortnight ago, Marcel Schrötter is keen to work on further progress while enjoying his time at one of his favourite tracks to the fullest. His expressed wish for Phillip Island? To give himself and his team a reason to celebrate. The well-rehearsed team will be looking for their success recipe starting with the FP1 on Friday, because the aim, as always, is to focus on a fast qualifying lap on Saturday while not neglecting the development of a strong race pace.
A balancing act that 20-year-old Jeremy Alcoba is also facing. For the Moto2 rookie, however, it will be the first time to ride on the legendary 4.4 km Australian circuit. The Spaniard is looking forward to exploring another unfamiliar track, especially as the Phillip Island circuit is blessed with stunning scenery and beautiful views of the ocean. As one of the fastest and most fluid tracks on the calendar, it offers some of the most spectacular racing of the season. The youngster is also a guarantee for sensational performances, even if he was not able to reward himself recently in Japan and Thailand.
Meanwhile, the two riders of the German racing team are hoping for dry conditions, but the small peninsula off the coast of Melbourne is not really known for consistent weather. According to current forecasts, it could be cool and sometimes rainy from 14 - 16 October.
Due to the time difference to Australia, German fans should set their alarm clocks for 03:00 a.m. on Sunday at the latest if they don't want to miss the 18th Moto2 Grand Prix of the 2022 season, which kicks off at 03:20 a.m.
