Jeremy Alcoba celebrates top 10 result in Misano, Schrötter P11

By crossing the finish line at the Misano World Circuit, all the efforts of the weekend were suddenly forgotten as the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team picked up more important world championship points with a brilliant tenth place for rookie Jeremy Alcoba and an eleventh for Marcel Schrötter.

With an absolute rocket start, Jeremy Alcoba catapulted himself from position 21 to 15th place and thus directly into the points. Thanks to his absolutely consistent lap times, the young Spaniard literally outgrew himself in the race, as team manager Jürgen Lingg proudly acknowledged after his protégé's top 10 result. Before that, the rookie of the German racing team had overcome position after position and even left his teammate Marcel Schrötter behind. The 20-year-old's performance is all the more remarkable when you consider the 12 crashes in the race, so "staying seated" alone was an achievement. This tenth place even brings Alcoba up to 16th in the World Championship, which means he is now only four points behind the experienced Brit Sam Lowes.

Marcel Schrötter, who was on a high before the summer break, stumbled in Misano with a lack of feeling for his Kalex machine and when the necessary confidence is missing, it is sheer impossible to push your limits. That's why the 29-year-old was visibly disappointed despite finishing eleventh in the 14th round of the World Championship. A long-lap penalty in the race did not make it any easier to maintain his position. A lot of work was invested on the part of the whole team, so P11 and five points are still an acceptable outcome. The German consolidates his eighth World Championship position and in order to build on the successes from Sachsenring and Assen, he and his crew will do everything they can to get back to work in Aragon with a clear head.

However, the professional riders will not have much time to recover, because in just two weeks the World Championship squad will head to Motorland Aragon before the overseas races bring the final phase of the season underway.

Moto2 World Championship 2022 - P8 - 101 Points

"The whole weekend was unfortunately as difficult as Austria, except that qualifying here saved it a bit. Unfortunately, there was not one lap this weekend where I had fun riding and of course, that is not a good sign. We are working really hard in the whole team to build a bike that gives me a good feeling. But even with major changes, the feeling remained the same. The race was tough, also being beaten by my teammate is of course far from what I imagined and expected. The most disappointing thing is that I don't feel able to fight because that's just so unusual for me. You can't always have good races, but unfortunately, I don't feel competitive. It's frustrating and unfortunately, we don't have a solution at the moment. Of course, we will look at it carefully for Aragon now and hopefully find a way. It's not that there is one big problem, it's a combination and one causes the other. I don't have the confidence to lean the bike, so I don't turn in well, I don't have corner speed and I don't come out ideally."

Moto2 World Championship 2022 - P16 - 47 Points

"The race was really good. I truly enjoyed it a lot, especially because I didn't expect to have such a good start. Within the first lap, I managed to overtake five riders and that certainly gave me an extra push. I knew I needed to keep a constant pace in order to get further to the front. At the beginning of the race, my pace wasn't ideal but since the temperature in the race was a bit warmer than in all the sessions before, I think we made the right tyre choice. The feeling was good but we need to improve our qualifications because it's a major task to start from around 20th place and finish within the top 10. We will need to find a solution for that, maybe we can improve the feeling for one fast lap and maybe I need to risk more but I am sure these things will come with experience. In the end, I am learning with every race and after this weekend, I am really happy because we did a good job. Let's try to follow this way and improve this top 10 result in Aragon."

"Jeremy put in a really good performance again in the race, so we have to make sure that he gets a few places further up the grid in qualifying because then he could have finished in the top six today. We urgently need to work on that, because in the races he really goes beyond himself. The times were absolutely great and he even improved over the distance. But what I liked most was that he was able to set these times on his own. He overtook everyone possible and then rode very consistent laps and ultimately achieved another top 10 result. Congratulations to the whole crew and Jeremy.

Our expectations for Marcel are of course different. He is eighth in the World Championship and he simply has much more experience. We know that he can do more, but he had difficulties getting into the groove the whole weekend and had problems with the bike. He didn't feel comfortable with the balance of the bike. That was a pity, of course, because this is where he got his first podium, which is why we always like to come to Misano. He has to analyse the weekend for himself now, we will check the data and see what we can do for Aragon. But I think he can get another single-digit result at Aragon."
