Viva Barcelona! The LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team starts the Catalunya GP with a fresh fighting spirit

Peacefulness is slowly returning to the hills of Mugello as the MotoGP squad heads to the next stop on the packed 2022 racing calendar: the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya - the home race of LIQUI MOLY Intact GP rookie Jeremy Alcoba.

But the Barcelona Grand Prix has a special significance not only for the Spanish recruit in the German racing team but also for Marcel Schrötter chose the metropolis as his home for several years. In 2021, the current World Championship seventh scored a solid Top 10 result with P8, a result the 29-year-old has achieved four times this season already. Once again, the German's goals are set high, but with the start of FP1 on Friday, it will be essential to set up his Kalex perfectly in order to be ready for the fiercely contested qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, for which maximum temperatures of up to 26°C are expected.

Spanish Moto2 rookie Jeremy Alcoba knows the circuit in Montmelo, a small town just outside Barcelona, like the back of his hand, but with every new category comes new challenges. The determined youngster plans to master these above all with calmness, prudence and focus on further development. The 20-year-old wants to learn as much as possible from his difficult Mugello Grand Prix, which is why he is already planning further intensive data analysis with his crew on Thursday in order to get off to the best possible start to the ninth of 20 race weekends in this season, which runs until November. The support of his compatriots, who are expected in thousands, is assured this weekend and should give the long-time leader of the rookie of the year standings a good boost to reclaim that position from Pedro Acosta.

Thanks to its 1047m start/finish straight, which is only slightly shorter than the one at Mugello, the 4.7km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will certainly provide some thrilling slipstream duels when the lights go out for what is expected to be a sweaty 22-lap race on Sunday, 5th of June at 12:20 (CEST).
