Gonzalez retains championship lead in Assen thanks to P3 - Agius scores points in ninth place

At the Dutch Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen, Manuel Gonzalez once again proved his great fighting ability: After a problematic first part of the race, the Spaniard consistently fought his way forward and secured important championship points with third place, thanks to which he remains at the top of the Moto2 World Championship. LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP team-mate Senna Agius crossed the finish line in ninth place after battling for position late in the race, scoring seven valuable championship points.

In front of sold-out grandstands, Manuel Gonzalez started the race from third on the grid, but initially lost a lot of ground due to grip problems. Nevertheless, he found his rhythm and worked his way up to third place towards the middle of the race. He was able to close the gap to the leader to 1.7 seconds, after it was over three seconds at times. With a further 16 championship points, Gonzalez remains leader of the standings. Together with his team, he will analyse the causes of the problems and work on a quick solution.

Team-mate Senna Agius also had to contend with unexpected grip problems after an initially good start. The 20-year-old Australian found his pace in the second chasing group and secured seven championship points with ninth place. The ambitious Kalex rider is not satisfied with this result and is already looking forward to the next race weekend at the Sachsenring, where he hopes for revenge at the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team's home Grand Prix.

"The race started very differently than I had imagined. My start wasn't bad, but I had problems with the rear grip of the bike from the first lap on. We need to check the data to see what happened because it's a bit strange. We've never had this problem in the past, so I was surprised, and it was really difficult for me to fight for positions. I lost a lot in corner exit and people were overtaking me. Then I tried to stay calm and adapt to the bike because the rear was sliding a lot. In the end, I was able to ride a good pace and make up ground. The overtaking went really well, so in the last few laps, I tried to catch up with the top riders. But I was already too far away."

"In the end, P3 is a really good result, although we suffered a lot today. We just have to be happy because we are on the podium even in difficult moments. And that's the way to fight for the championship. We will check the data and go to Sachsenring with the same bike because I have the feeling that we are really strong and can fight for the win on every track. So, we will continue like this and attack again next time. Nevertheless, a big thank you to the whole team for their hard work."

"It was a tough Sunday. I had a really good start, but difficult first lap where I got pushed around a lot. I lost a lot of time and positions and struggled to get a feel for how to fight my way back to the front. We also struggled with a big lack of rear grip at the beginning of the race. That put us in trouble much earlier than I had expected. We have to analyze exactly why my feeling has changed so much since yesterday and stay calm for the Sachsenring. Thanks to the whole team, as always. We will make amends the weekend after next!"

"Assen was a successful weekend for the whole team with a podium in every class. That's something to be really proud of, congratulations to everyone. Today’s Moto2 race was also very good, even if our plan didn't work out. We were of the opinion that Manu could ride a better pace at the beginning. But unfortunately, we had a problem with the rear grip for both riders. It was not easy for either Manu or Senna to adapt to the situation. But the longer the race went on, the better it got. In view of these circumstances, you simply have to be satisfied when we have one rider on the podium and the second also achieves a single-digit result with ninth place despite having had difficulties."

"We will now see what caused the grip problems, because we have never had that before. We have to try to solve it before next time. I don't think it can be anything major. The next race is at the Sachsenring, which is a very special race from our point of view. So we will do everything we can to carry on as before and go into the summer break as leaders in the world championship and also in the team standings. That would be great and must be our goal. The whole team has once again done an excellent job. Everything is going well and that's why we remain confident."
