Front row start for David Muñoz in ultra-tight Barcelona qualifying
The 20-year-old from Seville narrowly missed out on pole position by just 0.005 seconds with his final time attack. Teammate David Almansa rounded off the strong performance of the Spanish duo with fourth place on the second row of the starting grid.
LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Moto3 team riders are showing in great shape at their second home race this weekend, even though neither of both was at the top of the timesheets after the first free practice session on Friday morning.
In Friday afternoon's Practice session, however, David Almansa secured direct entry into Q2 by finishing fourth, while David Muñoz slipped out of the top 14 at the very last moment. By Saturday morning, however, the clear upward trend on both sides of the team's garage was impossible to miss.
Almansa finished FP2 in third place, just ahead of teammate Muñoz. A crash by Almansa, in which he lost control of the front wheel at turn two, had no further consequences.
David Muñoz, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Friday, took the detour through Q1 into Q2 with the third-fastest lap time of the session. Q2 eventually turned into a real thriller with gaps in the millisecond range. Until just a few minutes before the end of the session, Almansa was in pole position, but was ultimately pushed back to fourth place.
Practically at the same moment, Muñoz conjured up a superb lap on the Spanish asphalt, storming into second place on the grid.
The start time for the 2026 Moto3 World Championship's sixth race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is scheduled for Sunday at 11:00 am local time.
