Almansa fights his way to fourth place in a thrilling race; Uriarte scores points in Brno

After securing his third consecutive pole position, David Almansa was determined to cap off a strong weekend at the Czech Grand Prix with a top finish. Marcos Uriarte, who stepped in for David Muñoz, once again scored points for the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Moto3 team with a solid performance.

David Almansa delivered an impressive performance in this year’s Moto3 World Championship round nine. The 20-year-old Spanish rider started from the top spot on the grid and played a key role in the leading group that quickly formed as no fewer than six riders battled for the win at the Automotodrom Brno.

Almansa took the lead for parts of the race and even tried several times to break away. But each time, he was prevented from doing so. In the final laps, the battle for the podium spots got even more fiercly. Almansa was back in the thick of the action and closed the half-second gap to the leaders ahead of him on the final lap. Just when it looked as though a podium finish was assured, an opponent got in his way in the final chicane before the finish line. As a result, Almansa lost momentum and crossed the finish line in a strong fourth place.

Marcos Uriarte proved himself as a replacement for David Muñoz with steadily improving performances throughout the weekend. Uriarte, who had already stepped in as a substitute in Austin, put in a flawless race on Sunday and also showed a lot of fighting spirit in the first chasing group, where up to nine riders battled for seventh place.

The 21-year-old qualified for 16th place but, due to grid penalties imposed on other riders, he left the line from 13th place on the fifth row, where he initially lost a few positions. However, Uriarte quickly fought his way back into the top 15 and defended his 13th-place finish until the end of the race, earning four more important points for the team.

The World Championship will continue this coming weekend in Assen, the Netherlands.

«It was a complicated and difficult race because of the many battles within our large group. On top of that, I didn’t feel very comfortable — I especially lacked confidence in the front end. But we did well, considering that we’d chosen the medium front tire, which isn’t the best option for me. Still, I was able to adapt well to the situation and manage the long distance effectively. I tried to push hard and break away, but that was impossible because the other riders disrupted my rhythm. So, I prepared very well for the final laps, but in some situations, a few of my rivals pushed me wide. As a result, I entered the final lap slightly behind the leaders, but I was able to close the gap. In the final sector, I launched an attack and fought for a podium finish. In the last corner, however, another rider made a hard move, which meant I couldn’t do anything about it until the finish line. But overall, we achieved a good result with fourth place, which also applies to the entire weekend. Now we’re off to Assen, one of my favourite tracks, and I’m looking forward to doing well there again. But first of all, thank you all so, so much for everything.»

«I don’t think it was a bad result, because we performed well in the second group right up until the end, even though we still need to improve a bit. But for our first World Championship race in such a long time, we can be satisfied, since we scored points for the team — and that was our goal. So now we’re focusing on next week and continuing to work on improving and taking another step forward. Overall, we did a good job all weekend; everything worked out well. Our pace in the race was also good. Still, there’s room for improvement. But so far, we can be satisfied. Many thanks to the team for their help and support.»

«Our thoughts were with David Muñoz this weekend. The entire team wishes him all the best for a quick and full recovery. As a replacement, we’ve once again signed Marcos Uriarte, who already did an outstanding job for us in Austin. He proved himself once more on both days of practice this time around. He improved in every session and made the jump from Q1 to Q2. In the race, he delivered a solid performance and ultimately scored points again. Compared to Austin, there was a noticeable improvement. We were therefore very pleased with his performance and look forward to continuing with him next weekend.»

«David Almansa was the fastest rider alongside Maximo Quiles during practice, which he impressively demonstrated on Saturday by securing his third consecutive pole position. The race was a tough battle for him, with constant overtaking maneuvers taking place within a group of six riders. In that battle, he could have emerged victorious—or he could have lost. With a fourth-place finish, we were unfortunately perhaps slightly on the losing side. Nevertheless, David fought until the very end for a podium finish, if not for the win. We can be proud of that, and we’re already looking forward to the next race in Assen, where we hope Marcos will continue to improve and we can once again fight for a podium finish with David.»
