Almansa out due to illness; Marcos Uriarte is the lone contender at the Sachsenring
LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Moto3 team’s home round has been quite unfortunate so far. David Almansa had to withdraw on Saturday due to illness and return home early. Marcos Uriarte, who is once again filling in for David Muñoz, secured in qualifying P20 on the starting grid.
David Almansa complained of feeling unwell as soon as he arrived in Germany. Due to fever, he sat out both Friday’s sessions and had to see the race doctors again on Saturday morning. They gave him the green light for Free Practice 2. A final decision was to be made after the session ended.
Following discussions between the rider, the team, and the MotoGP medical staff, it was decided that Almansa will sit out the remainder of the event, including qualifying and the race. Almansa will return home immediately to continue his recovery, and his health and well-being remain the team’s top priority.
On the other hand, in the German team’s garage, Marcos Uriarte arrived at the twisty and narrow Sachsenring with track knowledge gained in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. But despite steady improvements and growing familiarity with the track, he narrowly missed a spot in the top four in Q1, which would have been necessary to advance to Q2. The 21-year-old Spanish rider remains confident, however, that he can be as the only rider to deliver a strong result for the team at their home Grand Prix.
The final race of the first half of the season is on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
