Marcos Uriarte finishes in 18th place at the Sachsenring after a collision

The home race at the LIQUI MOLY Grand Prix of Germany did not bring LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP’s Moto3 team any luck this time around. Lone rider Marcos Uriarte was involved in a collision at the start of the race, which dashed any hopes of a points finish right from the start.

After David Almansa was sidelined due to illness, even though he had tried to make himself available to his team during the second free practice session on Saturday morning, on the team’s most important weekend of the season, the entire burden of responsibility fell on Marcos Uriarte’s shoulders. The 21-year-old Spanish rider once again stepped in for David Muñoz.

Starting from 20th on the grid in the seventh row, Marcos Uriarte faced a difficult challenge. Amid the chaos of the first lap, an incident occurred at the tight and twisty track in the Free State of Saxony during the second lap, involving several riders, including Uriarte. Fortunately, he was uninjured, and his bike remained undamaged as well. Hoping to somehow still finishing in the points, the ambitious rider continued the race, but his efforts went unrewarded.

After the summer break, the championship will resume for the second half of the season on the second weekend of August at Silverstone, England.

«Overall, it wasn’t a bad weekend because we had a good speed. In the end, though, we didn’t get the result we were hoping for. I didn’t handle qualifying well, and I crashed during the race. I’m sorry for the team. Even though we finished outside the points, I finished the race for the team after the crash. Thank you very much to everyone for their dedication and hard work over the weekend, and especially for giving me this chance again.»

«The Grand Prix at the Sachsenring is always something very special for our team. It’s our home race, which attracts more than 200,000 spectators every year throughout the entire weekend. We also have many guests visiting us, especially the team’s sponsors, from whom we received tremendous support. I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the encouragement we receive from them during the race weekend here at the Sachsenring. Unfortunately, we were unable to demonstrate our potential on track, as David Almansa arrived already feeling ill and had to be hospitalized on Wednesday due to fever. As a result, he had to sit out the first day of practice, and after his attempt on Saturday morning, we decided, in consultation with the race doctor, that it would be impossible for him to continue the weekend.»

«Marcos put in a solid performance in Friday’s Practice session and missed direct advancement to Q2 by just two hundredths of a second. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to advance from Q1 to Q2 either. It’s not easy to keep up in a Moto3 race starting from 20th place. Unfortunately, Marcos was involved in a collision on the second lap. At least he was able to re-join the race. This weekend has shown us once again just how unforgiving this sport can be. Last year we won the race, and this time we came away empty-handed. It is what it is, and we have to look ahead. The important thing is for David Almansa to make a full recovery and get his health back on solid footing so that he’ll be available to us again after the summer break. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish David Muñoz all the best for his recovery, which, fortunately, is progressing well. Our greatest hope is that both of our Davids will return to the team as soon as possible and be able to reach their usual level of performance again. Finally, I’d like to thank the entire team for their performance and dedication during the first half of the season. I wish everyone a restful summer break and look forward to seeing everyone again at Silverstone in early August.
