Remarkable Comeback in Indonesia: Gonzalez defends Moto2 lead with second place, Agius takes P4

Manuel Gonzelaz charged to a strong second-place finish at Lombok on Sunday, while Senna Agius further boosted the team’s results for LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP with an equally strong performance that earned him fourth place.

Manuel Gonzalez once again proved his class at the Indonesian Grand Prix at the small island there. After a big accident involving several riders right after the start, the race had to be restarted and shortened to 14 laps. Starting from tenth on the grid, Manu Gonzalez’s prospects for the shortened race weren’t the best. But he rose to the challenge and quickly found his rhythm after the restart.

Lap by lap, Gonzalez closed the gap until he was finally in third place and clearly on course for a podium finish. After Alex Escrig, who had been in the lead until then, retired on the penultimate lap due to a technical issue, Gonzalez finished second behind his rival Izan Guevara. In doing so, Gonzalez not only maintained his lead in the World Championship but once again proofed his strength and consistency in the title race. With a 5.5-point lead, he remains the man to beat.

Equally impressive was Senna Agius’s performance, as he, too, staged a phenomenal comeback over the course of the short 14-lap race. Starting from 13th place, the Australian fought his way up to ninth place on the very first lap and continued to move forward bit by bit from there. In the final laps, the 21-year-old even had a chance at a podium finish as he put intense pressure on the Spaniard Daniel Holgado, who was racing ahead of him. Agius ultimately crossed the finish line in fourth place, just 0.4 seconds behind the third-place finisher.

The championship will resume in two weeks with Round 18 of the season at Phillip Island. The event is sure to be an emotional farewell to the picturesque island, as the Australian Grand Prix will move to Adelaide starting with 2027
