Gonzalez celebrates second consecutive win in Mugello
On Sunday, the 23-year-old Spaniard dominated the Italian Grand Prix and extended his championship lead with the victory. Senna Agius narrowly missed out on the podium in fourth place.
Manuel Gonzalez has been the benchmark in Moto2 World Championship for quite some time now, not just since Sunday two weeks ago. Nevertheless, it seems that his outstanding performance in Barcelona has given him an extra boost.
After a blistering start from pole position, Gonzalez immediately took the lead. Only his compatriot Ivan Ortola was able to keep up with him until the halfway point. In the final stages, it was a solo run for Gonzalez. At the finish line, he had a lead of a good five and a half seconds over second-place finisher Celestino Vietti.
His victory at Mugello was his second in a row and a repeat of his triumph at the Italian circuit from the previous year.
The young Australian Senna Agius once again showcased his talent at Mugello. Starting from seventh on the grid, the 20-year-old was one of the fastest riders on track, making rapid gains in the final third of the race and finding himself right in the thick of the battle for the remaining two podium spots. At the finish line, Agius missed third place by a mere 0.017 seconds. With P4 at the Mugello Circuit, he has solidified his fourth-place position in the points standings.
From the beautiful Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, the team now heads straight to Balaton Park Circuit, where the Hungarian Grand Prix will take place this coming weekend.
