Almansa takes Pole Position for the seventh time; Muñoz on the second row of the grid

LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP’s Moto3 team duo demonstrated fighting spirit during Saturday’s qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix. David Almansa shone with an impressive comeback to the top spot on the starting grid, while David Muñoz took another step toward regaining his former level of performance by securing sixth place on the grid.

Twenty-year-old David Almansa once again demonstrated his tenacity at the challenging Motegi circuit. Three crashes on Friday didn’t throw the Spaniard off course, a fact that became clear, if it wasn’t already, when he set the fastest lap in Free Practice 2 on Saturday morning.

In the decisive second 15-minutes long qualifying session for the top starting positions a few hours later, under good conditions, Almansa left no doubt as to his intentions. In the end, he and his team celebrated their seventh pole position of the season.

David Muñoz, who is competing this weekend for only the second time since his long injury break, has once again exceeded all expectations. After finishing second on Friday morning, he placed seventh in the crucial Practice Session, securing a direct spot for Q2.

Muñoz finished FP2 in seventh place before securing sixth starting position at the last minute in Q2.

The Moto3 race is scheduled to start early Sunday morning at 4:00 a.m. CEST.
