Gonzalez and Agius seal strong Assen finish with Double Podium
LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP's Moto2 team is going from strength to strength. At the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen’s «Cathedral of Speed», both Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius made their mark on the race and battled for the win right up to the final chicane.
World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez, who started the race from the third row, initially had to hold his own in the chasing pack behind David Alonso, who was able to build a lead at the front over the following laps. Once Gonzalez had moved into second place, the 23-year-old Spanish rider had to close the gap and launch his attack for the win.
On lap 17 of 22, Gonzalez finally passed Alonso. He held the lead until the final lap, when the battle for the win reached its climax and the last chicane was not for the faint of heart. Gonzalez anticipated an attack from Alonso, who came from the outside and emerged slightly better from the last chicane, narrowly claiming victory. Gonzalez crossed the finish line in second place, trailing by a mere of 0.024 seconds, and once again extended his lead in the overall standings.
Senna Agius, who started the race from P6 on the grid, maintained an impressive pace till the finish line and held third place for a long time. As the fastest rider on track, he closed the gap of just under 2 seconds to the leading duo in practically the blink of an eye and suddenly found himself in the thick of the battle for victory at the historic TT Circuit. When he crossed the finish line, Agius secured third place, the position he now also holds in the overall standings.
In two weeks, LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP will race at its home round, at the legendary Sachsenring.
