Next stop: a colourful Misano welcomes
LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP’s Moto2™ and Moto3™ teams are set to compete in the San Marino Grand Prix this weekend. Both teams are performing at top level and looking to shine at the season’s round 14 at Italy’s Misano World Circuit.
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, located just a stone's throw from the popular vacation region around Rimini at Italy's Adriatic coastline, was a regular host of the Italian Grand Prix in the 1980s and 1990s. Following extensive renovation and modernization work to the circuits facilities and track itself, Misano returned to the World Championship calendar as a permanent fixture back in 2007. Since then, the event, now known as the San Marino Grand Prix, has enjoyed great popularity year by year among riders and fans alike. The most striking feature of the track are its colourfully painted run-off areas. Many years ago, Misano took a pioneering role in this regard, and since then, many racetracks have drawn inspiration from it.
In Moto2™ World Championship, the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP team heads to Italy as the clear favourite. Spaniard Manuel Gonzalez leads the riders’ standings by a comfortable margin, and his teammate Senna Agius, who is currently in third place, remains in contention for the title race. Both riders are responsible for the team’s significant lead in the team standings.
Being victorious in Silverstone and his second-place finish at Aragón, David Almansa got off to a blistering start into the second half of the season. These results catapulted the 20-year-old Spanish rider into third place in the overall championship standings, where he currently trails the runner-up by just four points. The last two races have also played a key role in helping the team solidifying its third-place position in the team standings. 18-year-old Spaniard David Gonzalez was originally scheduled to compete in Red Bull Rookies Cup in Misano, but he received special permission and will once again replace his still injured compatriot David Muñoz this weekend.
