Agius storms to next victory

Australian Senna Agius was also the measure of things at the second meeting of the current Moto2™ European Championship this weekend in Valencia, while JuniorGP™ rookie Leo Rammerstorfer was pleased by score his first points in the highly competitive Moto3 Junior World Championship.

In beautiful May weather throughout the past few days, thrilling motorcycle racing was offered by the young talents at Spain’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo. The riders in all classes gave thanks to the numerous spectators who turned out on race day at the well-known Grand Prix circuit outside the gates of Valencia with exciting races.

Despite bright sunshine, German’s LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team had to accept some bad news on Sunday morning. Jakob Rosenthaler from Linz in Upper Austria, third in the opening race two weeks ago in Estoril, had to cancel his participation in the races due to health issues. Rosenthaler had qualified for the starting grid in 16th place on Saturday and was in good spirits to add to his points tally in the races.

Nevertheless, it was to be a pleasing conclusion for the junior division of the renowned German racing team from the Allgäu region. In the season’s third race, Senna Agius, who is just 17 years old, took an uncontested start-finish victory from pole position and celebrated a flawless hat trick on the podium.

In JuniorGP™ Moto3™ class, Leo Rammerstorfer kept the flags flying high for the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team after his compatriot's retirement. After a difficult Saturday with all-important qualifying sessions, the 18-year-old rider from Linz needed the first race in the morning to regain his confidence. Starting from 25th on the grid, he fought his way into the top-20 and finished 19th after 17 laps.

In the second race, the talent from Upper Austria got well away when the starting lights went out and was already just outside the points after a few laps. On the last lap, he was able to pass the competitor in front of him, whom he followed for long stretches with a gap of tenths of a second. With 13th place, Rammerstorfer was already among the top 15 in only his third Junior World Championship appearance.

In European Talent Cup, Mohammed Abdalaziz Binladin showed a pleasing upward trend on days of practice and in Saturday’s qualifying sessions. In P17 in his group, the 15-year-old rider just missed to make it through the main races. In the "Last Chance Race" on Sunday morning, Abdalaziz Binladin unfortunately didn't get past 14th place.

The series continues in two weeks with the event at the Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain.
