Lukas Tulovic Moto2™ European Champion 2022

With two race wins at the second last meeting of the season, Lukas Tulovic crowned himself early as the new European Champion, while his team mates Philipp Tonn, Jakob Rosenthaler and Leo Rammerstorfer also impressed with strong performances.

With the seventh meeting of the season at the Spanish circuit MotorLand Aragón, the series returned from a long summer break. At least for the participants in Moto2™ European Championship and European Talent Cup, this lasted almost three months.

Moto2 rider Lukas Tulovic held all the aces before the weekend to decide the championship in his favour early on. The 22-year-old rider from Eberbach in Baden-Württemberg left no doubt from the first moment that he would not be able to implement this plan. After setting fastest times in free practice sessions, Tulovic dominated both qualifying sessions and celebrated two uncontested start-finish victories from pole position on Sunday. After the first race, Tulovic was already established as the new Moto2™ European Champion.

In JuniorGP™ Moto3 class, Philipp Tonn and Jakob Rosenthaler once again competed for the junior division of the German LIQUI MOLY Intact GP Junior Team. Both riders went into the second last race weekend of the season with high expectations but were not quite able to meet them at full matters. After battling for places in a large group just outside the points on Sunday, Tonn and Rosenthaler ultimately finished 18th and 19th.

After Portimao last July 15-year-old Leo Rammerstorfer from Upper Austria was allowed to use the team's standard Moto3 race bike in European Talent Cup for the second time and once again, he delivered a talent test. With an aggressive ride at only his second race weekend in this series, Rammerstorfer made it into the main races by finishing in second in Saturday afternoon’s "Last Chance Race". On Sunday he crossed the line in 23^rd place twice.

The series finale will take place in three weeks' time at the Valencia Grand Prix circuit.

"I think the Coldplay song `Amazing Day´ says it all. Today we experienced a very big moment that will remain unforgettable for the entire team. We are overjoyed and happy for Lukas that this title can no longer be taken away from him. He has really earned it. It was a terrific weekend, what he showed here. The championship was the crowning glory. It was certainly one of the best weekends we have seen from him. But it was not just the two race wins, but also the incredible lap times he was able to set at all times. He deserves a lot of praise for this brilliant performance - chapeau Lukas! Given the situation, he also deserves respect and recognition for bringing our two years of work to a successful conclusion."

"Lukas of course outshone everything on this day. But our young lads also pulled hard on the wire and put in very decent performances. In Moto3, Philipp surprised us, at least on the first days, although you could expect that after he was here testing a week ago. In the race, however, a little more could have come from him, even though in his group there was a hard fight from start to finish. He also tried and fought, but it lacked a bit of his performance at the beginning of the weekend. Jakob, on the other hand, struggled a bit more from the beginning and had to deal with some problems, but that was not just down to him. Especially with the strategy we still have to get a bit better, even if on the whole everything went in a good direction. He could have done a bit better and hopefully we can make up for that at the last race in Valencia and get him back into the top 15 and in the points, because he has what it takes."

"In ETC, Leo gave us a lot of pleasure again. Although he was in a bit of poor health, he did very well over the days. On Thursday and Friday, he was not well at all. Nevertheless, he showed strong performances, especially in the `Last Chance Race´, which he even almost won. As second, he still qualified for the main race, which allowed him to do two races today. This was an incredibly important step for his further career, because apart from the last few days he has learned an extremely large amount in the races. He gained a lot of impressions that will help him further. Of course, he still lacks experience and corner speed with this bike and so on, but he did a very good job in only his second outing in this series. Aragón was worthwhile from the team's point of view, and as we leave with a championship title, we now go into a well-deserved party. A big thank you to the whole team who stood by us at every moment."

"I am over the moon; it was a perfect weekend! Apart from this morning’s e warm-up, we were in first place in all the sessions. To land a one-two after pole position and win the championship early on top of that, what more could you want. Nevertheless, I was very nervous before the first race, which was repeated in the final laps. Before crossing the finish line, many things were going through my head and some mistakes happened. It was really not easy to keep the focus. To be honest, I could not hold back a few tears in Parc Ferme and at the podium ceremony. Those were really very emotional and beautiful moments. But with the victory and the championship in hand, the day was not over yet."

"It was about finding the focus again for the second race. But of course, that was much easier than before. After we adapted the bike to the warmer conditions and I got away well from the start, I was able to ride my pace straight away and call up exactly what was possible. The start-finish victory was the icing on the cake of this beautiful weekend. Tonight, there will be a nice celebration with the whole team to really enjoy my biggest success so far. But before that, a big thank you to the whole team for their support and help in every situation. I would especially like to thank Patrick and Enrico for their empathy, because they gave me everything to make me feel comfortable on the bike again as soon as possible after the long summer break."
