Medical update: David Muñoz on the road to recovery after crash in Hungary
Following his crash in the Hungarian Grand Prix last Sunday, David Muñoz has made further significant progress in his recovery.
The 20-year-old rider from Seville was battling for a podium finish at the Balaton Park Circuit after starting the race from P17 on the grid. However, on the final lap, Muñoz and three other riders were involved in a crash, one of whom couldn’t avoid hitting the Intact GP rider.
David Muñoz received immediate medical attention at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in Budapest. Medical examinations revealed fractures on the left side of his pelvis as well as a fracture of his left arm.
Muñoz underwent successful surgery at the Dr. Jenő Manninger Trauma Center in Budapest. During the procedure, the fractures on his pelvis and left arm were stabilized, and he remained under medical observation until arrangements could be made for his return to Spain.
After arriving at Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona on Thursday, Muñoz underwent further tests to assess his pelvic and arm injuries. The latest examinations confirmed that no further surgery will be necessary.
The Spaniard will now continue his recovery and rehabilitation program under medical supervision. A targeted rehabilitation plan is in place to ensure that he can return to the racetrack as soon as possible.
The entire Intact GP team wishes him a smooth and successful recovery and looks forward to his return to the team soon. ❤️🩹
