Dominique Aegerter takes P2 in first Austrian race

In Race 1 of the FIM Enel MotoE Grand Prix of Austria, Swiss Dynavolt Intact GP rider Dominique Aegerter crossed the finish line in second place to maintain his Cup lead.

The battle for the Cup title continues to come to a head. After the first seven-lap sprint on the 4.3 km Red Bull Ring, Dominique Aegerter is still a solid 26.5 points ahead of his rival Eric Granado.
But before that, the 31-year-old was quite lucky not to collide with Matteo Ferrari right after the start, after he went down in turn 1 directly in front of the Swiss. Aegerter had to take evasive action and lost some ground to the leading trio consisting of Mattia Casadei, Eric Granado, and Kevin Zannoni.

Now it was all about pushing to the absolute limit to close the gap towards the front again, but there was not much time left. After the Swiss had passed Zannoni, he took up the chase of the top 2, but had to realize that getting closer wasn't an easy task. The Cup leader managed his third position confidently until Casadei ended up in the gravel two corners before the end of the race after a heated battle with Granado, leaving Dominique Aegerter to cross the finish line in second place.

The second race of the weekend awaits the MotoE field on Sunday at 15:30 (CEST).
