Aegerter aims to extend 31.5-point lead in Austria
With just four races remaining in the 2022 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, the next stop is the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, in the breathtakingly beautiful Styria region of Austria.
In joyful anticipation of finally heading into the penultimate showdown of the season after an eight-week summer break, Dominique Aegerter of the Dynavolt Intact GP team is as hungry for success as ever.
And although the 31-year-old took a first and a strong second place in the last double race at Assen, only half of the regular points were awarded after the final three-lap sprint race was abandoned three times, which is why half a point could be decisive at the end of the 12-race season.
All the more important is the precise set-up work on the Swiss rider's Energica Ego Corsa machine on Friday, when not only the two free practices will take place, but also the qualifying, which will decide the starting position for the races on Saturday and Sunday.
Aegerter's biggest challenger on the 4.3 km long Red Bull Ring will probably be the Brazilian Eric Granado again, although the Italian Matteo Ferrari, who currently occupies third place in the World Cup ranking, can still pose a threat to the Swiss in his attempt to win the MotoE World Cup title at the third attempt.
Will the riders' standings become clearer after the two races in Austria, or will it only get tighter ahead of the grand finale in Misano?
