Baldassarri celebrates premiere podium in Assen - Garzo scores twice
BDynavolt Intact GP newcomer Lorenzo Baldassarri celebrated an impressive success at the second race of the season at the TT Circuit Assen: After a strong sixth place in the first race, the Italian secured his first podium in the MotoE World Championship with third place in the second race. Team-mate Hector Garzo fought his way into the points in both races despite arm pain and collected valuable championship points.
For Lorenzo Baldassarri, the Dutch Grand Prix was a festival of emotions. The MotoE rookie started the first race from eighth position. Despite intense battles in the dense field, he was able to maintain his position at the start and improve to sixth place on the fourth lap. He was pushed back to seventh place as the race progressed, but a crash by Mattia Casadei on the final lap catapulted Baldassarri back up the field. In the end, he secured sixth place and thus the first ten championship points of the day.
Baldassarri capitalised on the momentum in the second race: after exciting duels, he started the final lap close behind Jordi Torres. Shortly before the finish line, he launched a decisive attack and moved into third place - his first podium in the fourth MotoE race.
Meanwhile, Hector Garzo had a comparatively quiet first race, which he contested despite ongoing problems with his arm since his crash at the season opener in Le Mans. The Spaniard held on to tenth position for the entire seven laps and also benefited from Casadei's crash at the end. Garzo finished ninth and collected his first seven points in the championship. In the second race, the reigning MotoE World Champion was much more aggressive. Despite further physical complaints, he managed to finish fifth and collect eleven more championship points. The hard work that Garzo and his team invested in fine-tuning the Ducati V21L after the first race paid off.
By the next race in Austria (15th -17th of August), Garzo wants to do everything he can to get his arm problems under control.
