Almansa earns a hard-fought P2 at Aragón

Following outstanding performances by David Almansa on both days of practices, the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Moto3 team celebrated its rider’s strong second-place finish on Sunday. David Gonzalez narrowly missed the points and finished in 18th place.

David Almansa started the race as the favourite from pole position at the beautiful racetrack in the outback of Spain's eastern coastline. And it was the 20-year-old from Puerto Real who set the pace at the fierce end of the pack for ten laps before being overtaken by the eventual race winner, Maximo Quiles.

As the race progressed, the battle in the four-rider lead group intensified, causing Almansa to temporarily drop down to fourth place; however, he didn't let that rattle him and fought his way back up to second place. On the final lap, he gave it his all once more and closed in on the leader.

David Gonzalez, who started the race from row six, lost a few positions on the first lap but battled until the end in a large group for a possible spot in the top 15 and crossed the line in 18th.

For the next race in two weeks, the entire paddock will travel to Italy’s famous Misano World Circuit in the popular vacation region close to the Adriatic coastline.

«To be honest, I’m a bit frustrated because, after giving it our all the entire weekend, we obviously wanted to win. But that’s just how it goes in racing. However, it was still a great race; I felt pretty good. Starting around lap 10 or 11, there was a small gap, and then, four or five laps before the end, another rider made a mistake and went way wide, creating a big gap. And when I tried to close that gap, I completely ruined my tires. But we’re still happy because I gave it 100 percent right up to the last corner, and we’re satisfied with that. A great performance this weekend. Many thanks to everyone on the team for their support.»

«Overall, this weekend here in Aragón went much better, and I learned a lot again. The race itself was difficult due to a massive tire drop. But I battled in the group fighting for the final points positions. In the end, I finished in 18th place, which I think is good considering it was only my second race in the World Championship. So, I think I did better than I did last time in Silverstone, even if the race result doesn’t reflect that. But my lap times were faster, and I was closer to the leaders, which I’m happy about. A big thank you to the team for giving me this opportunity.»

«We can be very satisfied with the weekend in Aragón. David Almansa dominated all practice sessions and also secured first place in qualifying. That was his fifth pole position this year. He led the race for a very long time, though he may have put a bit more strain on his tires than Quiles did. Nevertheless, only 0.2 seconds separated the two at the finish line, and he managed to close the gap twice. His tenacious performance ultimately secured him second place. Congratulations to him and his team.»

«David Gonzalez has continued to improve, as evidenced above all by his results in practice. We were particularly pleased that he qualified from Q1 to Q2 for the first time and thus started the race from 17th on the grid. Finishing 18th, he was just 0.5 seconds behind the top 15 and thus narrowly missed the chance to earn more World Championship points. He certainly learned a lot from this race, and it would be great if we could work with him again in Misano to give him the opportunity to continue developing positively.»
